He hates LSU because Baton Rouge isn't a BIG MARKET pro sports town.

Maybe...I'm just upset that LSU's best coach in history may be leaving and probably feels like he was never appreciated the way he should have.

If Saban built our program from "nothing" how can Miles be the best?

Same reason he probably thinks Biff Jones was a better coach than Charles McClendon.

He picked his own category in stats to choose who the best coach in LSU history was.

Of course that puts Bill Arnsparger on the same level as Nick Saban. But none of these guys existed before Saban so its an interesting split in the fabric of time and McClendon is mearely the 5th best coach in LSU history.

Cant look at wins because Miles would only be #3 on that list.

AS it is with all things on this board from most everyone, SOME of what is in these three statements is true. I definitely believe that some people don't appreciate or like Miles UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and that does color their opininon. After we got rid of McClendon, the only really good and consistently good coach was Arnsparger, and he bolted to Florida to hire Spurrier. Up until Saban came we were inconsistently decent, a great game followed by a disaster. In my wildest dream I never envisioned an NC much less two with two different coaches. And this stuff about winning with Saban's players, that's true, but I will say this. If you gave me Saban's players, we would have gone maybe 2 and 10. Miles can coach and RECRUIT, and I think championships are won in the first week of February.

Baton Rouge is a sort of small town, but who cares? LSU defines Baton Rouge, and that's a good thing. For that matter, Louisiana is a small state and getting smaller with each succeeding census tabulation. How we produce the talent we do is incredible when you think about it.

If Miles leaves, and i damn sure hope he doesn't. I think this board can claim a small modicum of credit for turning his vision northward toward Michigan. SAdly we do have some complete idiots on this board, and for all I know, I could be one of them because I read this board almost every day during football season. That ought to be a mark of insanity right there. He must really like it here to put up with this fan base, but then again, I guess three plus million will assuage a lot of grief. I know Miles has ties, and he seems like a prinicpled man who cares about family and friends. He doesn't impress me as a man who bites the hand that feeds him. Michigan gave him a lot, and I feel that he may want to settle that debt. He would be the ghost of Bo Schembechler in the eyes of some fans. Here, he is just another coach who happened to compile a great record with a great set of kids who appear to love him. I was impressed by the number of Tex AM players who he talked to or sought out after our victory. Why would a kid on an opposing team seek out a rival coach after a bitter loss by their opponent if there weren't something decent about the guy? I worked with many people over the years who chose differnt paths in life, but I still like and admire them because I thought they were decent people. A few others that I worked with, I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. They were hateful and all about them. That's not a sensation that I get from Miles.

I hope we don't lose him and his quirky way of speaking and commenting after a game. To me, he can murder the King's English all he wants. In fact, he can be a serial killer of nouns, verbs, and their interaction if he wins like he did this year.

bwallcubfan it is hard to compare the now of college football with the BCS to what the 50s,60s and 70s were. LSU had some very good teams from the late 50s into the middle 70s. But there was only a handfull of bowl game to go to and no major TV contracts. College football was mostly a regional sport. To say LSU was irrevelant and had not history is not a true statement.

You don't get in the top 15 of all-time wins if you didn't do anything before Saban days.

The college football landscape has changed and favors those teams that have deep talent pools in their State. That's why Michigan and Notre Dame have fallen.

1. It appears that most don't.
2. I don't even know what this means - BR is not a small southern town and using words like delusional, psychotic outside of a mental health setting are meaningless.
3. "Did nothing" is a very broad stroke of the brush. There is Vandy "did nothing", and LSU "did nothing" and a lot of space between. Conference titles, wins on No. 1 ranked teams, etc. count as something don't they?
