Johnny Wholestaff. We might even see Anderson and/or Eyanson closing it out Monday, if the game is close.
If Evans isn't used Saturday or Sunday, he will 100% get the ball Monday. If not him, Jay has already shown us he will give Cowan the start.

Interesting matchup:
Coastal Ked 19 times when they played Ethan Norby a lefty strikeout artist from ECU.
Hope Anderson Ks 20

Cade and Anthony have hit 7 batters in over 200 innings, good luck with that.

Also love me some right handed pitchers.

Limit the walks and HBP. Righty starters let Brown eat.

They lean in a lot. I was surprised the umpire called hit by pitch when he was just barely out of zone against Louisville

This team purposely gets hit by pitches.
Sheesh.
Y'all get ready for elbows being stuck out over the plate.

Maybe. Have you watched them play?

I gotcha! I just like comparing the numbers side by side. Great work!

That’s a lot of hit by pitches I’m pretty sure they are leaning in and it has to be stopped

the TLDR is that they are very good
Agreed. But looking at the stats, they aren’t as good as LSU despite facing a significantly easier schedule.

Good overview! HBP does stand out. It’s baseball and anything can happen but I like our chances.

Their offensive stats are not impressive especially for playing in the Sun Belt. As much as our fans complain about our offense theirs is nothing special except maybe hit by pitch and stolen bases.

Their entire lineup is hitting over .290. It would be one thing if this was a super regional matchup, but Coastal has proven themselves all postseason against P5 schools (including sweeping Auburn at Auburn in the SR).
One thing that stands out is their dual closers - the 2.47 ERA is solid, but the 0.58 ERA is remarkable. You can give the usual caveat regarding in-conference competition, but there is a reason that these guys are riding a huge winning streak up to this point.

Kade should be able to limit their running game. Eyanson with all of his offspeed will be more challenging.
Game 1 Lsu 4 coastal 2
Game 2 Lsu 1 coastal 4
Game 3 Lsu 6 coastal 3
Game 1 Lsu 4 coastal 2
Game 2 Lsu 1 coastal 4
Game 3 Lsu 6 coastal 3

What jumps out in the metric comparison between LSU and CC is that they attempt to steal a lot more than us, and they are hit by pitches a lot more...putting a lot of pressure on opponent's pitchers.
1. Kade generally does not give up many base runners
2. He's left handed, which is always harder to steal against
3. Most of our pitchers throw hard, making it generally harder to steal off of
4. Our most commonly used pitchers this post season either have quick deliveries, are left handed, or have good moves to first.
Teams have a roughly 80% success rate against us, which isn't great, but we've done a pretty good job under Yeskie (57 attemps last year, 51 this year) of limiting stolen bases by either keeping guys off base, keeping good track of guys once they're on base, or having quick moves to the plate.
Eyanson side steps a good amount. Evans has a super quick delivery. Shores has a relatively quick delivery and is quicker to the plate because of height. Rizy isn't quick, but he's quicker because of height. Noot has a relatively quick delivery. Kade is left handed. Coop is left handed. Cowan is quick to the plate.
I'm not super worried about chaos on the base paths. WVU ran a ton all year (going 111/144 compared to 108/137 for Coastal). They got 21 guys on base in 2 games, and only stole 3 times. 1 was a passed ball, 1 was a no throw down with a runner on third. 1 was a straight steal on a breaking ball.

Counterpoint, guys like eyanson throw their offspeed low and in the dirt slot, couple wild pitches/blocked up balls that scoot away are possible

Shores isnt that quick, but throwing 100 helps.

WVU was also down for 75% of the innings played, so alot harder to risk the steal when losing

So fairly evenly matched stats expect for the fact that LSU’s bats are way stronger.
