I wouldn’t compare but would take him over Kelly if given choice

One inherited a playoff team, the other inherited scraps.

Exactly, Freeman got a brand new house, with ceramic tile and marble counter tops. CBK got a FEMA trailer.

OK, we beat Vandy and OU.
since both of those teams beat Bama, that means we kicked Bama's arse, right?

Yeah, but we had two weeks to prepare for that. Bama never had a chance.

At best Marcus Freeman has an incomplete grade. Brian Kelly has a better career resume of course, but at this stage of his career, I don't think its as clear cut as some are making it out to be.

As for this season, Marcus Freeman did a better coaching job than Brian Kelly and its not even debatable. Explain it away all you want, but they beat two common opponents on the road that we lost to. Notre Dame is safely in the playoff. We were eliminated with two games left. ND shite the bed and failed to show up for the Northern Illinois game and lost. We did that for three straight games. All three were double digit losses with the season on the line. We consistently had pre-snap issues all 12 games. Special teams is a huge issue that has remained unaddressed for 3 years. We are 8-4 with the season basically over. They are 11-1 about to be playing a home playoff game. We could of course beat ND on any given day, but no way in hell would I be overly confident we could go up there and win.

Again, I do believe is Brian Kelly is a better coach, but lets not pretend this season did anything to help his case.

There is one coaching change that explains Notre Dame's success in 2024 - Mike Denbrock.

Kelly is soft and his teams are soft.

What exactly makes it a "better coaching job"?

I mean I get what your are saying, but what other metric, ahead of results against common opponents, are you supposed to value between two opponents that are in different conferences?

They are both in year three at their job. They are in the playoffs and we are not. They lost one game, we lost four. He took the hand he was dealt at ND and did a better job than Kelly did in the same role at LSU.

Its a net sum game, and THIS season he won and Kelly didn't get it done. How is this not clear?

Did you miss the 2020 and 2021 season???? Wtf are you talking about .. BK rebuilt Notre Dame when multiple coaches could not. He did inherit a horrible squad like it or not.

I get all that but it doesn't make it a "better coaching job."

That's like saying DeBoer did a "better coaching job" than Clark Lea this year because he's in the playoff and Lea isn't.

Freeman was handed a well oiled machine. Even most of the coaching staff was already in place. He can thank BK for that!

Bottom line, do you honestly believe in 2024 that Brian Kelly did a better job coaching his football team than Marcus Freeman did coaching his?

And again, I have said twice now I do believe Kelly is the better overall coach, just not in 2024.

scraps.

Those scraps helped BK have his best year of the 3 and won the West.

It will be interesting to see how BK does next year, yet another year removed from the disaster he took over.

What will be the excuse next year?

I think everyone can agree on here that Kelly has underperformed the past two seasons. Kelly very likely may fail, but I can tell you for a fact that Freeman will never win shite at ND. Kelly’s accomplished more at LSU than Notre Dame has accomplished in the last 36 fricking years, and even that isn’t saying much.

Do you use this same logic when comparing Les Miles and Brian Kelly?

It’s a totally different game with transfer portal and nil.
