No he did not. The adult in the room, Dave Arranda, left and the results speak for themself.

O was always a drunk, always chasing pussy.

I thought he did a decent job in moving on from a bad 2-2 start by knocking off #21 Florida at the swamp and a wild comeback win vs #10 Auburn.

The second half of 17 set the ground work for their run in 18/19. O started figuring it out. Laugh all you want but its reality.

if any coach not named O had that same 3-2 start, his house would have been set on fire.

O does it and all is forgiven.

no, it's not reality.

O had Burrow and all the offensive pieces in 2018 and didn't do much with it, under Ensminger.

Now yes, he brought in Brady in 2019 and it worked --- for one glorious year.

Then Brady and Burrow left and it all fell to crap.

O didn't "figure anything out." He got lucky with Brady and Burrow, etc. for one season.

2019 was an outlier.

Wonder what Administrator would hire such a "Drunk"? LSU?

He did pretty good regardless of your description. He has been a key part of several national championship teams.
How many championship teams has Kelly been a contributor?

Yes all was forgiven the moment he hoisted the trophy in 19. Rocket science I know

Incredibly overrated…he did indeed get them back on track as far as beating teams we should have but got his dick kicked in when we went up against anyone on equal footing. He didn’t work miracles

O was just never going to manage a program well long term, it’s just not in his DNA.
Hence him selling himself to an idiot AD as hiring him at a discount to spend more on more competent coaches. He caught lightning in a bottle and couldn’t recreate because he was incapable not because he quit trying…..if anything he tried too hard to recreate it by following what he thought was the exact same recipe

Exactly.

I remember when he said (on his own radio show) “if I knew how to fix it, I would.”

That’s the head coach (at the time) saying that.

he got a raise and an extension before that season ever started.

in fact, his raise and extension was for a season nearly identical in results to the one that nearly got Miles run out of town.

2015, Les lost to:
14-1 Alabama
10-3 Ole Miss
8-5 Arkansas

LSU had the #39 ranked total offense in the country.
and the fanbase was fricking LIVID that he didn't get fired that day against A&M.

2018 O lost to:
14-1 Alabama
10-3 Florida
9-4 A&M

LSU had the #68 ranked total offense in the country
Ed Orgeron got a raise and an extension for it.

which was absurd, because the (ridiculous) reason for hiring O in the beginning was that we'd pay him less and spend more on assistants.

But that quickly got forgotten and we paid O a stupid amount of money.

The whole thing was nonsense from the start.

Exactly

one of these 2 games was an embarrassing low point for the program (21-0 NCG against Alabama), the other was "finishing strong as interim coach" (also a game against Alabama)

Points - 0
Total yards - 125
Passing Yards - 92
Rushing Yards - 33
1st Downs - 6

Points - 0
Total Yards - 92
Passing Yards - 79
Rushing Yards - 39
1st down - 5

“Ed Orgeron's contract history with LSU includes a 5-year initial contract (2016-2021), a 6-year extension signed in 2020 (2020-2026), and a final separation agreement in 2021. His final agreement was a $16.9 million buyout.“

Ed Orgeron signed a contract extension in March of 2019 (you know, after the 2018 season, but before the 2019 season).

LSU Board of Supervisors approves Ed Orgeron’s 2-year, $4 million contract extension

quote:

LSU coach Ed Orgeron has gone from the hot seat to an extension and raise in the span of six months. The LSU Board of Supervisors approved a 2-year, $4 million contract extension for Orgeron on Wednesday (March 20), putting Orgeron under contract through March 2023.

“I think he’s represented the university extremely well,” LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said to the board.

Orgeron’s buyout will nearly double to $10 million

and if that article isn't good enough proof for you, here is the pdf of his actual contract.
with the signatures of
F. King Alexander (dated 3.25.19)
Ed Orgeron (dated 3.6.19)
Joe Alleva
Daniel T Layzell (CFO of LSU)

AMENDMENT TO EMPLYOMENT AGREEMENT

raise, extension, and doubled his buyout amount after the 2018 season.

so I repeat again:

2015, Les lost to:
14-1 Alabama
10-3 Ole Miss
8-5 Arkansas

LSU had the #39 ranked total offense in the country.

2018 O lost to:
14-1 Alabama
10-3 Florida
9-4 A&M

LSU had the #68 ranked total offense in the country.

one of those 2 coaches had the fanbase ready to revolt because he wasn't fired.

the other got a raise and an extension.

The one that everyone wanted fired had an archaic offense and couldn't beat Alabama. Pretty much everybody (myself included) wanted him gone before 2016 ever started.

The one that got an extension and raise fielded an offense ranked 29 places worse than the one we all wanted fired. And just got shutout at home for the 2nd straight time by Alabama (the only coach in LSU history to pull off this feat by the way).

That 2019 year would be an outlier at any college in the country. That team had 2001 Miami hurricane swagger and they played the same way and backed it up.

They took on the coaches mindset and whooped arse

I’m not the biggest fan of coach O and how it all ended but Covid did play a roll in it and he wasn’t organized enough to control that situation.

What he did though was put the peices together for one of the greatest seasons ever and that is worth a frick ton of credit in my book and should be in any tiger fans book.

That season will never be forgotten and I for one think it was worth it easily.
