2014 wasn't impressive at all. It was a bad season. As bad as it was, 2017 was worse. Again, we beat 2 teams with a winning record in 2017.....two. That includes our OOC games. We played 5 teams that fired their coach. The SEC was laughably bad that year.

When Miles was fired, here was our roster at each of those positions:

WR:

Sullivan
Dee Anderson
Dupre
Drake Davis
DJ Chark
Dural
Jazz Ferguson
Derrick Dillon
Russell Gage

That's more talent than all but a couple of SEC schools at WR.

at the end of 2015, Trey Quinn, John Diarse and Tyron Washington all transferred out under Miles' watch. At the end of 2016 due to coaching change, Jazz Ferguson left.

This ruined what should have been a well formed WR corps. One of key themes to all this is bridging. Lose a guy to the league or graduation, you have another guy ready. Focus on the CB position if you want to see how that is properly done.

quote:

OL:
Savage
Okeke
Campbell
Willie Allen
Cushenberry
Weathersby
Brunfield
Teuhema
Magee
Boutte
Malone

Again, top third of the SEC in terms of talent there.

any top end talent here? I see some program guys, like Ive stated. Any legitimate tackle prospects?

quote:

DL:
Key
Logan
Godchaux
Lawrence
Alexander
Herron
Gilmore
Clark
Bower
Valentine

Admittedly, we only really had two great DL on the roster, which is curious given that Ed Orgeron was the DL coach and responsible for recruiting the DL.

Again, some good program guys, but where is the top end talent that LSU won with in Saban years and Mile's early years? Outside of Key, where are the pass rushers?

quote:

LB:
Riley
Beckwith
Divinity
Thorton
White
Alexande

Beckwith & Riley gone after 2016, O's interim season.

Back to the bridge theory...White, stud...Divinity looks good...but what else was left? Donnie Alexander blew. Corey Thompson was good, but was moved down from safety due to lack of bodies/talent.

Coach O revamped the LB corps almost in 1 season. One of the real obvious things he's done as coach.

I wonder why Ricky and all the other o haters don’t mention that 41-7 loss to auburn as a historic loss

Great response. You realize that no matter where we fall on the 2014 vs. 2017 argument, we are arguing about whether 2017, Orgeron's first full season as HC, was the worst season in a decade or the second worst, right?

You want to sit here and argue all these subjective points and talk about schedule but the SEC west was murderers row in 2014 and the SEC was a dumpster fire in 2017.

Explain how 4-4 on the SEC is better than 5-3.

I'm open.

You might as well have. You just got done telling me the seasons are the same because we won the same amount of games and finished 3rd in the West.

No it isn’t it’s baeed on results

the same "subjectivity" you are railing on is the same subjectivity that decides who plays in the college football playoff.

So yes, it is based on results which are then sorted and ranked based on subjectivity. This isn't hard

I might as well have? You’re reaching now, I didn’t make you post lied about me you did that own your mistake for the first time in history you’ll feel better. And again no you’re wrong results determine your outcome not subjective opinions. Once you fail to do what’s necessary to achieve you’re at the mercy of opinion that’s totally different than saying opinion determines all outcomes.

I’ve said that repeatedly the auburn loss was just as bad it just wasn’t historically bad because it wasn’t the worst loss in history to that particular program. So again wrong

2014
No SEC West Team finished under 7-6
Opened against Wisconsin who went 11-3
We lost Mett, Jarvis, OBJ, and Hill.
We were starting a true sophomore QB.
A true Freshmen RB
Took Alabama to OT

2017
We played 6 teams with winning records total
We lost to 4 of them
5 teams we played fired their coach
Lost by 14 to Alabama

1 win difference.

so you are saying a human element did not determine that Notre Dame play in the CFP over Georgia?

No it did not, UGA was a 2 loss team Notre Dame was undefeated. UGA had zero chance of getting in ahead of Notre Dame that’s why they didn’t.
