Let's show the world that LSU won't pay market value to their coach. Even after he's shown that he can be successful on that stage. It does nothing but look bad on LSU after a certain amount of time but those of you that are supposedly rabid LSU fans don't care. You don't want the shrimp boat captain to make a salary comparable to other's in his position

Dumb arse school of thought here. How about giving LSU some credit here for taking the risk of hiring Orgeron? How about Orgeron being grateful for getting 3 point 5 fricking million dollars a year when his ONLY other option at the time he was hired was being a position coach making 1 million?

Why does LSU need to show others it can swing its dick and give Orgeron a raise just so he is paid “comparable to others.” He’s not going anywhere and we already have the highest paid staff in the country!!!!!

So question, is LSU extending O as he only has 3 left after this season?

I don't think any coach should be extended after year 2 of a 5 year contract, unless you make CFP.

Get 10 wins this year, and follow up next year with 10 wins, I'm fine with an extension. No change to buyout!

Programs get put in a bad position with Extension/buyouts after 1 good year. You want that big buyout and extension then prove you can do it over multiple years.

Orgeron probably makes double his market value.

What kind of rule of thumb is that?
It's been more of an excuse that coaches have started to use to get more buyout money. 4 years of buyout money is better than 2-3 years of buyout money. It sounds good and makes sense to tell an AD that the people you're recruiting want to be guaranteed that the coach will be there for the whole time the player will be there. When in reality, if you're a good/great coach, players know you'll be at that school, unless pursuing different coaching opportunities.

Ok. You should call some of the schools that are paying these outrageous contracts and tell them that you've got the novel idea, That they should just stop paying them.

Until then coaches contracts are going to go up. If you want to compete you'll have to pay. If you want to argue whether O has been successful that's futile but people will still argue it.

Am I missing something? Is O going somewhere? With whom are we competing?

Yeah, I guess it's possible that a future up and coming young coach who everyone wants will one day pass up a very lucrative offer from LSU because LSU didn't pay O "market value". I highly doubt it, but Ben thinks it certainly can happen.

Do you think O will get hired away if we don’t give him a raise this year.

If the answer is no, why give him a raise and extend him after 1 good season, when you can take another year and make a decision.

Where are we lose the competitive advantage?

Let's see what happens. #5 and a 11 win season is going be hard to beat.

If alleva tells O no, where is he going to go?

The entire argument to hire O was to not pay "market value" for a top tier coach and spend that money on assistants instead. WTF?

How about we just let this CONTRACT mature and run its course before we do something stupid.

Did CEO say he was looking elsewhere? This is his dream job; so he's not leaving without being forced out. SO, If this is about fair compensation, let him at least win the SEC before you go and Gus Malzon us and give him money he isn't worth.

I’m a coach O fan but with 3 years on his contract let’s wait and see.

We don’t want to do what Auburn did with Malzahn.

Alllllllll of that is bullshite. If 3 yrs on a deal doesnt solidify security, then what does? Its not like he’s a lame duck with no seasons left on his contract. Hell, even 2 years is plenty to have security.
