Clemson coordinators explain what went wrong vs. LSU
"For all the good that we did, we were on the wrong side of it against a really, really hot team."
Tweet - https://twitter.com/Sheadixon/status/lsufootballnet_football_media
"But they got on fire and they were scoring, and were trying to score with them. The biggest thing is I think if we scored touchdowns on those early drives, I think you might have been able to distance yourself to where now they go into panic mode.
"And there were some missed plays. Had a couple third down passes that were batted. One screen play, it was a one-score game, and if we make that block then Travis is going to go score."
We played great in the red zone all year and had our worst game. I think we had five plays we gave up on missed tackles. And that was a season-high for explosive plays on missed tackles. "Stating the obvious with some of this, but it's very painful to get there and come up short.
"Again 3rd and 19, and 3rd and 10 in the third quarter against some screen and we come underneath the block instead of outside and up the sideline they go.

still cant believe how Joe had 550+ total yards in just about 2.5 quarters of game

Their defense schemed it as best they could with the talent they had. By the second half they were out of schlitz.

Thanks for sharing, Ree!

If we don't get flagged for an OL down the field on Thad's catch the first drive, we would've rolled them from the 1st quarter on, instead of the 2nd quarter on.

Meh, I have ALL the respect in the world for Clemson.
I don't think those were excuses at all. They are laying out, specifically, what they did wrong and how.
This wasn't like when Bama loses and its "oh we were better and we will win our inevitable mulligan".
They gave us credit for what we did, and at the same time, let you know where they messed up.

So they open up and basically say LSU got lucky. Cool. frick Clemson and their shitty online fanbase. They make LSU's online fanbase look mature and sophisticated. Now their coaches are doing the same thing.

How is that a "missed play?" Our guy made a play. A missed play to me is airmailing a wide open guy.

Clemson came out disguising coverage well and it slowed the LSU offense down early. But as soon as Joe began to recognize single coverage against our WRs Clemson could not adjust. It started with Chase on deep routes and then the route was on.

Did he think LSU just became a juggernaut in like the last 3 games of the season or something.
This team was fricking hot since spring bro.

Clemson was just exposed a talking head said when their receivers got hit they started crying. LSU bullied the Clemson receivers they were used to playing teams like the Deaf and Blind and they got punk.

It turns out Clemson had the most athletic back-7 in college football and still got smoked on defense.
LB/S - I. Simmons - 4.39
S - K’Von Wallace - 4.53
S - Tanner Muse - 4.41
CB - AJ Terrell - 4.42

The refs called it fairly or even slightly towards Clemson.
Clemson was mugging the LSU WRs on the underneath routes. So, LSU just did the same to them.
Clemson really thought they could matchup 1:1 with Chase and Marshall, and picked the deep ball as their poison... hoping JB couldn't convert.
Insert gif of JB pointing to ring finger or smoking a cigar.

Yeah the “really hot team” implies it was just a fluke run we had at the end rather than one program being better than the other.

Well yeah, look at the teams they faced all season

Did I miss the remarks about the "bogus" targeting call on Skalski?

Lmao look at all those excuses
Not quite up to a Michigan laundry list of excuses, but still very good. Better than Bama's, tho.

Our WRs have similar speed but I think they are smoother on their cuts. Chase and Jefferson come out of their cuts at an elite level. Marshall's advantage is his size.
