I started working in this field in 1998, part time at least. Graduated 5/00. My first big project was to convert a big state agency over to Active Directory.

You are a fool to think a degree from just about any university really matters unless it’s from an Ivy League or Technology university.

You are quite mistaken if you think a degree from any of the following universities doesn't "really matter": Stanford, Duke, Notre Dame, Washington University in St. Louis, Vanderbilt, Univ of Chicago. None of those are Ivies and none are "technology" universities (I assume you mean primarily engineering universities). BTW, I attended none of those, but I have family members who did.

Yup when you look back and realize how fast applications you’ve used even five years ago have become obsolete, showcases how the profession is ever changing yearly. Your minor in stats definitely comes into play in many facets of the profession. I use stats daily during the workweek. One suggestion I would have for the LSU ISDS department is to incorporate two vital certs that will definitely get recent grads at least a phone screen, the AWS SA professional and AWS big data certs, the Microsoft equivalents, VMWare equivalents, and so forth. A major issue I see is that many departments, including mine in EE is that they don’t offer certs that are incorporated into degree pathways. The degree in something is obviously a requirement, but at least give students the ability to learn more advanced skillets with the certs that are available that will set them apart from the rest of the candidates.

Damn right I do. You could learn a thing or two about cooking. Lol

Eeeweeww

You lost all credibility by dumping seasoning on crawfish. And being proud of it.

It's lazy, disgusting, stupid and unnecessary.

Stop wasting perfectly good mudbugs.

Long gone are my days of troubleshooting RAID controllers in Dell hardware. I design systems that I can fail over to Azure and back on prem or even load balance between the two with GSLB and Netscalers.

It's a totally different world technologically than it was even 10 years ago. I hope LSU is giving these kids modern skills.

...Rice, Emory, Johns Hopkins, Mayo (Medical School - you said "degree"), Cal-Berkeley, UCLA, USC, UCSD, UCSF, Northwestern, NYU, Carnegie Mellon, Michigan, Wisconsin. (Six more alma maters in there for my family; 2 of mine.)

Are we still at "just about"? I'll let you find some others.

Talk about cultural appropriation! They want to be LSU so bad.

I hate to history up this thread, but it’s worth mentioning that not all of the exiled Acadians (Cajuns) made it all the way to Louisiana. There are pockets of them in South Carolina, too. Ever wondered why some of the cultural traditions (like cooking) are so similar?

I was born in Houma, went to HS in Lafayette, and college in BR. Let me tell you, Lafayette isn’t anymore Cajun than BR. If you had tried to claim Nichols, maybe you’d have a point. The rural communities outside of Lafayette have way more Cajun culture than Lafayette itself, which is the exact same situation as BR.

Man, Cajuns have come a long way. When the British kicked them out of Nova Scotia, they had a hard time finding places to accept them.

Some were forcibly sent to Massachusetts (then a British colony) where they were treated pretty badly.

Some even tried to settle in the Falkland Islands (too damn cold, and France ended up selling the islands to Spain and Britain eventually took over again.

Some went back to France (the people at Paris got pissed at them because the Cajuns were granted an early form of welfare by the king).

Now places are fighting over whether they can be called Cajun.

They copy our ... football stadium name
You do realize Clemson used "Death Valley" before we did, right?

"Former LSU Sports Information Director Bud Johnson said LSU Tiger Stadium wasn't known as Death Valley until 1959 when the Tigers beat Clemson in the Sugar Bowl, but the name stuck ever since.

Clemson's Memorial Stadium has been called Death Valley since the 1940's, so they definitely have the edge on when the name was started, but Louisiana State University has the advantage of living up to the name these days."
