He hit .300 for LSU. Have you seen some of the high school kids drafted? Think they all hit .300 and start at LSU in CF?
There are a lot of .300 hitters in the SEC who don’t project as pro baseball players. Beloso hit .324 with 16 HRs in 2023 and his time in Omaha were his last games as a baseball player. Stanfield basically has one plus tool, his speed, at the next level.

I like him but his swing is terrible.
Moron alert.

It’s the age difference. The scouting profile for those high schoolers suggest they would outperform Stanfield when they reach his age.

Brown/Curiel/Stanfield as an every day OF?

Looks like Cowan will run it back officially.
Great piece for next year's staff

.298 15 doubles 2 triples from the nine hole and you griping?? Team leader had 20 doubles (Curiel), Stanfield tied with Jones and Frey for second. Decent outfielder, great nine hole hitter dude!

Honestly how much is Stanfield going to improve if he comes back???
I feel his best option is to go the UDFA route.

I’m not saying he projects as a pro guy, but thought he would’ve been drafted in the 15-20th rounds.
Why would you draft a guy who doesn’t project as a pro? I’m not saying this is true of Stanfield, but if teams think that they should not draft him.

Daniel Harden might think differently. Harden will be better than Stanfield

Andrew Stevenson seems like the better comparison to Stanfield snd he got taken in the 2nd round. I don’t think anyone expected anything close to the 2nd round for Stanfield but he’s a decent defender who can run and get on base. Beloso didn’t play much in the field and wasn’t fast.

Why can't he come back and get more NIL than a UDFA contract. He can always go the UDFA route after next season. No team's gonna pay him much with 20 drafted guys ahead of him.

I like Stanfield like everyone else here but he has zero power.
He should spend the offseason trying to add 10-15 pounds of muscle if pro ball is his dream.

Stevenson was an elite CF and Stanfield is average.
With that being said I hope he returns b/c he a is solid college player and has 3 years experience in the SEC.

This is the part plenty are missing. Hes got more experience than anyone on the team and has been successful at this level. He may not be a bopper or provide much pro value but he’s a damn good college player and he’s a big reason for #8. I’d love to have him back, but put Curiel in center for his draft year.

Either something was wrong with Curiels arm this year or he will never be a CF. Several times late in the year he struggled to throw the ball on a line to 2nd or 3rd. Also, in the CWS he didn’t play catch in between innings.

i like stanfield, but idk if anything about his game scream next level besides his range
He’s a good hitter but he’s a .300
contact hitter in college. Hasn’t shown any power. Hasnt shown a big arm in the outfield.
I dont think he projects very well.
100% this. as an LSU fan, it would be great to have him back. hate it for him though. i'm sure he's dreamed of the next level all of this life, i just don't see that lack of power and arm getting him there.....hope i'm wrong.

I had noticed that too and I didn't get to watch a ton of games til the post-season. He has a very slight build, so not shocking he doesn't have a big arm.

Stanfield’s swing is very controlled, a 75% swing you see with a lot of contact hitters. Matty Alou had a decent MLB career, choking up an inch or so. High average singles hitter. The pro’s have gotten away from that type of hitting but it wasn’t that uncommon in past decades. That’s before mph off the bat became the yardstick by which hitters are judged.
