The OP butchered what Charlie said. He didn't say Brennan would get snaps early in a game, he said the schedule lines up well for him to get some snaps early in the year.

Did what? Hanagriff did state Brennan would get snaps early in the year but also, now here's the key part, real snaps "not just mop up duty" and that Brennan would be no.2 by mid-season.

Have no idea what sports show you listened to today nor what you were drinking while listening. But you shouldn't be driving while doing so. What did you think Hanagriff meant by "not just mop up duty", it's not a janitorial job?

Coach O just said all the quarterbacks below Danny are second string.

Coach talk...O knows exactly who is his #2 QB. I hope we can sign another QB in the 2018 class because I doubt we keep both Brennan and Narcisse. One will transfer out after losing the job next summer.

The reason this doesn't matter, it's not Hanagriff scouting Brennan, it's his football sources scouting him who are legit.

I would almost guarantee you he and Moscona both get a lot of their insider info from Gordy.

So I'm not sure the statement holds water, unless Brennan is THAT good. And if that's the case, why not just make him the #2?

He doesn't know the offense, yet. It's possible over the next 3 weeks he can learn enough of it. But Etling, McMillan, Scott, and Narcisse have been learning it since the Spring.

No they are the future most likely. RS Lowell for his own good. He may be healthy but it can be sold to him that is best for him and Lsu. If what Han says is true then groom Brennan for next year as the backup and next season u sell the tebow role behind Myles. He would get reps and if he's used for that if an injury or even if Brennan struggles they would likely go to Lowell at times. He's get plenty of snaps and if he really shines prolly take over as the #1. If. Not and Myles was good enough to start for 3 years he's prolly n the draft after 3 and Lowell has 2 years to start possibly.

Really would be surprised if he's not red shirted. Pecking order;

Etling
McMillan
Scott

Just don't see it happening.

I don't understand how this works and never have understood people calling for backups to get "meaningful" snaps when the starter is healthy and not terrible. If Etling is healthy and not doing terribly, why would anyone else get snaps other than in mop up duty? I want to win first and foremost.

You don't understand because you've been an LSU fan for too long.

This is what successful teams to do get a backup ready.

You see, injuries can happen at any time, including on last drive of a meaningful, tight game, on the road, against a great defense.

Mop up duty does not prepare you for this.

Give us some examples of this. How many snaps did Deshaun Watson's backup play last year when the game was still undecided(i. e. meaningful). Hurts?

Except he has a radio show, discusses sports every day with people who are close to the program, including coaches, all the while dealing with Ott every day (and Ott knows more about sports than 99.9% of this board)...the dude could tell you the three or four teams that fought it out for the MAC title last year without batting an eye--and the spread on the most important games

and to the fig saying Hanny eats a lot, it's Louisisana we all do

Media guy, so to be expected. I don't find him as bad as many others.

never played a sport

Kind of irrelevant. Here a list of coaches who never played football at the college level. Some of them were pretty good.

Bill Clark, UAB
Dennis Franchione, Texas State
Charlie Weis, formerly Notre Dame and Kansas
Bobby Hauck, formerly Montana and UNLV
Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech.
George O’Leary, formerly Georgia Tech, UCF
Mike Leach, Washington State
Hugh Freeze, Formerly Ole Miss
David Cutcliff, Duke

Good for him, I like a good biscuit or 12

Not my opinion of him, not in the opinion of many on this board. But to each his own, I guess

In 2014 Jameis Winston was in his last year at FSU. So Jimbo knew he needed the next guy to be ready. Outside of the 1 game Winston was suspended, the backup QB threw 7 passes all year.

Also in 2014, Blake Sims was at senior at Alabama, and Coker was next in line. Coker didn't play in 10 of 12 games, and threw 35 times all year, majority of that coming in mop up duty against Western Carolina.

There's a myth that perpetuates on this board that LSU only plays the starter, and every other team is out there simultaneously playing the starter AND getting the next guy ready. It's just not reality. Very rarely does a new starter go into a season with a ton of meaningful game experience. It's just not practical.

OP's info is premised on Brennan getting snaps in situations that aren't mop-up duty,

Possible explanation: in order to sign Brennan we made promises, such as..

We'll keep the QB battle open and give you opportunities with the first team offense.

If you don't win the starting gig we'll give you in-game opportunities that are not just mop up duty.

That's a pretty big recruiting promise to make to a QB. I don't believe that for a second, because Myles himself has said before that a redshirt wouldn't bother him.

We'll have to see how it is done in practice, but if the guy comes in against Chattanooga on drive 3 to try and lead a drive, I don't have a problem with that. This is as opposed to, we're up 49 points and we're just handing the ball away. that doesn't do anything to develop a QB in my opinion.

totally on point.

. So when we are up 21 on Chattanooga, Myles can come in and throw a few passes against live action, so that when he laces it up for the first time as a starter in a year or two, he isn't like Phil Rivers coming in for a concussed Mett against Washington.

Isn't this exactly what Les did with flynn? Then RP? Then Mett? Then Jennings? Harris started sooner than any qb in the last 20 years.

All those players came into games before they were the starter.

Redshirting qbs basically doesn't happen any more. They are either going to play or transfer before the redshirt issue ever comes up. Think about every LSU veteran qb that lost the job of starter since, I don't know, Flynn. They all have transferred out if they didn't play, e.g.,

Harris
Jennings
Rivers
Hatch
The fat kid that went to Moo State
Hayden Rettig

I'm fired up for this season so I can update the definitive LSU QB Power Ranking since 1990 list.

Great point. And although I understand why most of these guys transfer (if they can't start as soon as they wish OR if the future seems a little bleak because of incoming QB's), it would be really nice if we could get high profile QBs, redshirt them, and have them finish out their eligibility.. And being in a good enough situation to have one of them starting during their RS Junior year.. Wishful thinking..

Look, Charlie is ok, but lets not go over board.

He told us Jimbo was a lock in 2015 and after Les was retained, he told us Cam was to be fired within a week.

I want to listen to the radio guy or read the reporter who told us in November 2015 that LSU was going to hire a DL guy already on the staff. That's the guy who had the real story.

What about Scott?

Regardless of some folks infatuation or obsession with Scott, I doubt he ever sees meaningful playing time at LSU. I know he's talented and very smart but the potential upside with Narcisse or Brennan mean that Scott will be left out.

If Brennan is the guy we'll have some attrition at the position. That's just the way it is in CFB today.
