CFN - Preview 2018: SEC Team Rankings

This is NOT a prediction of how the teams will finish. They’re the rankings of how good the teams are going into the season.
SEC West
1. Alabama Crimson Tide
2. Auburn Tigers
3. LSU Tigers
Should be ranked higher because … shhhhhhhhh, the defensive talent is as good as the any in the SEC. Alabama’s D will end up being statistically better, with linebackers Devin White and K’Lavon Chaisson, along with corner Greedy Williams, are going to be on the short list of the league’s best defensive players.
Should be ranked lower because … it’s starting a guy who couldn’t get the Ohio State starting quarterback gig. Joe Burrow is hardly bad, but this is LSU … it shouldn’t have a problem finding a star quarterback. There isn’t another Derrius Guice at running back or DJ Chark at receiver – at least not yet.
4. Mississippi State Bulldogs
5. Texas A&M Aggies
6. Arkansas Razorbacks
7. Ole Miss Rebels
SEC East
1. Georgia Bulldogs
2. South Carolina Gamecocks
3. Florida Gators
4. Missouri Tigers
5. Tennessee Volunteers
6. Kentucky Wildcats
7. Vanderbilt Commodores
SEC Rankings: Total Conference
14. Vanderbilt
13. Kentucky
12. Tennessee
11. Ole Miss
10. Arkansas
9. Texas A&M
8. Missouri
7. Mississippi State
6. Florida
5. South Carolina
4. LSU
2017 Final SEC CFN Ranking: 5
2017 Preseason SEC Ranking: 5
3. Auburn
2. Georgia
1. Alabama

It was a consensus among fans and assistant coaches that burrow was the best qb at osu. meyer didn't start him because meyer is biased

We should not be in front of Moo State, sorry guys.

Probably about right considering the SEC West is breaking in 3 new coaches and Ole Miss is on probation.
I think Mullen turns UF around pretty quickly, so it'll be interesting to see where they finish.

Why not?

Based on what?
We have twice the talent. Their coach is as big of a question mark as ours is (argue this if you want to but the fact remains, he has never been a head coach of a team in the SEC West. The toughest division in college football and it’s not even close) Their QB is not good (argue all you want about this but the fact still remains, he had a 50% completion ratio last year. That’s abysmal.).
I know many of you think State was some powerhouse team last year because of the beating they gave us. That loss had far more to do with our team not being motivated and not playing as a solid unit than it did how good of a team State had. Had that first touchdown not been called back, that game is a totally different.

It miss state still had Mullen I could see your point

They beat us by 30 points. THIRTY!
They nearly doubled our total yards and ran for almost 300 against us. They absolutely kicked our arse.

I like Pete Fiutak and he usually gives us a fair shake, but his team preview for us set the regular season win total at 7 games.
Yikes.
Yikes.

Remember the 90’s?? 7 wins are the bomb

I think this is about right. I think we will finally have a year where we are better than expectations suggest. Which is huge for the team. However, I also think we suffer some tough losses to Bama, GA, and Auburn. But I do believe all of those will be close games. Everyone else on the schedule I think we dominate in the trenches and just wear them out.

They went 4-4 in SEC play, while LSU went 6-2.

The defense should be very good.
The offense is replacing virtually all of their production last year with skill players who largely have very little experience/production at the college level.
The HC and OC are two coaches with little to no demand for their services in those positions outside of LSU. Until they actually produce, they won't get the benefit of the doubt (like Aranda does on defense).
The good thing is none of the preseason projections have any bearing on what happens on the field. I couldn't care less where LSU is picked to start the year or "projected" to finish. It literally doesn't matter. Even if LSU were ranked 125 to start the season, that ranking would have no bearing on their opportunity to play for a national title if they were able to beat all of the opponents on the schedule

Yeh you are right...no way a young team could've played better after hitting a long td early in the game...and no way that could hurt a team early in a road game

Not a bad overall assessment. This year will depend on whoever is under center stepping up, and good playcalling by Ensminger.
The D, I am not the slightest worried about.

Not really a consensus, Haskins is a beast
But you’re point still stands

They played 13-2 UGA and 7-6 UK from the east. We played 4-7 UF and 4-8 UT.
One of their losses also came in a rivalry game against Ole Miss after their QB went down with a horrific injury.
Do you all really think they didn't beat the dog shite out of us that day?

30 point games don't swing on a single play.
at the lengths some of you will go to defend even our most embarrassing losses.

Yep, they also lost to Auburn 10-49, who LSU beat.

Nope. But I don't think they'll finish above LSU in 2018 either.
