Zach, it looks like your whole thred is unravelling on you. John Ferguson was not the LSU annnouncer during the 58-59 seasons, though you say you listened to him on the radio those years. J.C. Politz was the LSU announcer, and his voice and style were nothing like Ferguson's. It appears much of what you post is fantasy. Way to represent Centenary!

He was a pretty good outside shooter, but he did not want to get underneath the basket and fight for rebounds. He was so skinny that he couldn't hack it under there.

That wasn't the problem. He was so damned tall that a lot of ref's really saw their roll as equalizer. If he touched somebody going for a rebound he'd get a foul called. Happened throughout his 4 year career at CC. Larry Little and Riley Wallace told him that job No. 1 was to stay in the game. CC had no other centers, just forwards behind Parish... John Pitts, 6-7 and fat; Jerry Waugh, 6-6 and white.

Obviously you have nothing better to do with your time than flame on a message board.

Wrong. Just an hour ago I took a nap with my golden retriever. Then I fixed him a sammich. He said it was excellent.

Nicholls and ULL beat LSU last year, it's not that big of a deal. Well, I guess it is a big deal for the little brother.

Zach, when did you go to Centenary? My wife graduated from there in 2002. I somehow managed to get her to wager 5# of crawfish on the series. She does have a penchant for hassling me over Centenary's shutout of LSU in football in like 1924.

I graduated in 73. CC was very good at football pre-WWII. One of their last players died a year ago. His name was Kirby Wilson. He worked out with me every day at the gym until his death. He served in the Marines during WWII in the Pacific after playing LB for CC in the late 30s.

He and a bunch of other former college and pro players got up a touch football game in Japan on the site where the atomic bomb had been blasted.

He described the game in detail and then I looked it up on the internet. Here it is..cool stuff:

I remember JC but I also remember John Ferguson. He must have come on later. I listened to LSU games all through 58 till 64 when we got a TV. But even in the 60s LSU was almost never on TV so I always listened on radio. If you'd like to believe I'm lying you and Elen Woods are perfectly free to do so.

Cool link, I'll have to show it to her. When did the CC disband the football team? I seem to recall my wife telling that they did it because it was unbecoming of their "gents" moniker to play such a rough sport.......but I seem to think the real reason eventually was something to do with money?

She's half right. The school changed the name of the team from "Iron Men" to "Gents" because they thought Iron Men was not Christian.
But the FB team was dropped because after WWII FB just wasn't financially feasible for such a small school. A lot of WWII vets were coming back to play for major colleges at the age of 22 to 24 on the GI bill. They would have crushed Centenary.

There is still one guy at my gym who just turned 84. He played for Penn State during the post WWII era. At the age of 18 he was lining up against returning vets who were 24 yo and had seen combat. It was a strange time for college football.

Ferguson was on the radio. He drove my Dad crazy.
I also started watching the Tigers in 1958. Dad was in the service and we settled in BR just in time. We went to all of the home games. What an intro to Tiger Ball.

I like your experiment.

What happened to Bat?

Long before I came here I decided to use avatars on poli boards honoring someone who died that I liked. Don't know why. Got on poli boards around 1998 and have been doing it ever since.

The amazing thing is that some folks stay up there for months and then a bunch of famous people I like die in a short period...usually in groups of 3..just like the cliche.

Once, when pressed about my need to change Avatars I said, "If my wife can change her hair color and style every month, I can change my avatar every month."
