Was this in some weird way blocking the Lane Kiffin deal? Or maybe Sexton insisted? Timing seems more than coincidental

We’ll see if he actually wants to coach again. There’s nothing holding him back now from finding another job.

I don’t think he has to look for and accept just any old job. It has to one similar in level to ones he’s previously held. Not that he has to hold old for a Notre Dame or LSU, but he he’s not in breach of contract if he doesn’t the North Texas gig, for example. Because that’s about the only type job he could get, and even then, I’m not sure they would even want him right now.

Right now being the key. He’s likely unhireable anywhere right now with all that’s going on. He’s toxic, and even the most desperate schools wouldn’t want to deal with that headache. Even if they were, the pay wouldn’t offset the buyout very much to make much of a dent.

What’s likely is that he’ll go through the very minimum motions to satisfy the clause, go way for a year completely, or get a tv gig that wouldn’t pay enough to really offset the buyout to put a significant dent either. The best interest for BK—and LSU—is that he goes away, recharges his batteries, lets all of this chaos settle down, and re-emerge this time next year or the next and takes a
Wisconsin/Cincinnati/Maryland/West Virginia /Boston College type job where their fanbase can actually have enough time to be sold on him.

But before that happens, a settlement with LSU is reached. It just won’t be for as much as our offer was. It will depend on how long it takes from now and then and how much the coaches at that job typically got paid. He’s going to want to double dip, and LSU will want to be done with it. So if he get $8 million at Maryland 2 years from now, he’ll take $20 million in a lump sum or 2. And LSU will happily oblige.

I’m just pulling these schools and numbers from my arse as hypotheticals, but it seems to pretty standard when looking at it from the 10,000 foot view with the circus a year or 2 behind us (and schools like us). It’s just hard for us to see it because we’re right in the middle of it with a warped perspective.

Tl;dr—Just because we announced we will BK the full buyout doesn’t mean we wind up doing that. Just that we are willing to if circumstances don’t change. And it also doesn’t mean that BK has to settle for just any job at this stage in his career. He’s not expected to take the OC job at Rhode Island A&M if offered. And he’s not expected to throw his hat in the ring for Arkansas State’s HC job. Applying for Penn State, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Ole Miss, etc….type jobs that he’ll never get should satisfy the terms of the buyout on his end.

I won’t name any names, but someone else did several weeks ago. It’s pretty common knowledge (but for semantics I’ll say allegedly) to those around the program that BK had, as Jada Smith would call it, an entanglement with his realtor. It’s not as common knowledge as to who that realtor is related to. That’s old news, and it didn’t really slow him down. BK was no doubt living his best life in and around BR. The rumors of a drinking problem is more than just smoke too.

Really hoping a school is dumb enough to hire him

I know we're happy he's gone, but no need to bash him. He's the winningest active HC in the country and I think a good coach, but he just wasn't a fit for LSU!

LSU embarrassed itself by dragging this thing out and the firing, not firing, but now he is really fired situation made LSU look like a bunch of ignorant DAs.

Um, screw BK. Said LSU fans were spoiled for questioning the offense after a win yet the offense continued to be horrible.

So glad he's gone. I don't care how many wins he had at ND.

LSU blinked, but BK won’t end up with $53 million from LSU.

I’m sure Kelly will have no problem finding a new job now.

Good for him that this nightmare is over.

He also would have settled this before it went to court making LSU look like the a-hole.

How was this to play out? We needed to begin a new HC search. Was SW to continue on as AD but have no input in the new search? I just don't see that could work.

He was fired ‘CAUSE he wasnt good at his job. There’s my cause.

They need incentive based pay. Win the NC, get $5M on top of salary for that year. CFP 1st rd, $x, 2nd rd $x etc

Be bad at your job and get $54M has to end
