Can't stand Brian Kelly now? Wait until Kelly wins big in SEC after transfer portal adds

USA Today
Thought I'd try to get a little positive vibe here.
Thought I'd try to get a little positive vibe here.

Kelly stands atop the “Portal King” standings. LSU signs one marquee transfer after another, and although no prizes are awarded for ruling the offseason, this roster overhaul positions LSU to compete for trophies next season.
If you can’t stomach Kelly now, how will you feel about him when he ignites LSU? Gird your loins, because Kelly’s Tigers are stirring, and that’s no joke.
quote:
Kelly, without detailing LSU’s 2024 roster payroll, said the Tigers operated “well under the cap." Having watched LSU muddle through a nine-win season with insufficient talent, I have no trouble believing that.
Kelly vowed six weeks ago that LSU would reverse its past course and become “very aggressive” in the transfer portal. He backed up that talk with a pledge to contribute as much as $1 million of his own money to an LSU booster operation if Tigers fans would also donate that much to LSU’s NIL collective.
quote:
Garrett Nussmeier plus transfers makes LSU a team to watch
The loss of Underwood was mitigated because the Tigers have a proven quarterback for next season. Garrett Nussmeier will delay the NFL for a year in favor of his senior season at LSU. He’s the SEC’s top returning quarterback.
quote:
LSU needed to solidify its offensive line. Inbound are a pair of Power Four transfers, Josh Thompson (Northwestern) and Braelin Moore (Virginia Tech), with multiple years of starting experience. On the defensive line, Patrick Payton joined LSU after a standout run at Florida State, where he amassed 31½ tackles for loss in three seasons. LSU completed its Sunshine State raid by plundering Jack Pyburn, Florida’s top-tackling defensive lineman. The Tigers secured multiple additions at wide receiver and cornerback, too. They search for more help in the defensive backfield.
Oh, and Kelly signed the nation’s No. 8-ranked high school recruiting class, too. Add it up, and this marks LSU’s best blend of prep prospects and transfer additions during Kelly’s tenure.
“We think that the program in terms of the culture and the standards are such that we can do that now,” Kelly said, “where we can bring in (this many) freshmen and maybe one of, if not the largest transfer portal classes, as well.”
quote:
Enjoy one last laugh, John and Susie Q. Football Fan, because if LSU’s offseason transformation pays off, you’re really going to detest Kelly.

Wont happen. He is who he is. 3 losses minimum. Likwly 4 or 5.

And he will still go 7-5 next year.

Well he lost big in the shittiest SEC year of my lifetime.
Also he has a horrendous record in big games. Sorry but I'm not buying the sunshine pumping especially considering the product on the field.
I was there seeing fricking DeBoer run a train on Brian Kelly yet it is completely forgotten by our fanbase. Let's not forget Elko and Napier doing the same

Then don't celebrate when we do win.

What makes you think the team will be worse?

Yes, it was unacceptable

The defense needs to be better and Nuss didn’t help with the A&M turnovers

Our 2 biggest deficiencies on defense were a lack of DT talent and depth and safety. DT won't be a problem next year. McKinley is in yr 2. Guillory is back and Breaux looks like a solid player. We also add 2 340lb plus DTs to rotate in.
Safety? We'll see. We might here on a new addition in the next 24 hrs and Delane may play S as well.
Offensively our 2 biggest weaknesses are deep threat at WR and weak IOL play. Hilton back showed a big difference and Brown has track speed. Moore and Thompson immediately upgrade our IOL which will help the run game and stop pressure up the middle which hurts a shorter QB like Nuss.
None of it matters until we see results, but if you break down our deficiencies, Kelly has done a very good job at addressing each of them

We can't run the ball worse than we did this past season
Qb won't regress
D will for sure be better.
I just don't see us being worse. You saw decent line play in the bowl game
I dont know why I'm even speaking on line play, even when it's good this place thinks it's awful

We will have more talent and depth across the board on defense. We lose Swinson and Zy which hurts the most. Payton is a much more productive DE (16 sacks and a lot of TFLs) than Swinson (3 sacks) when he got here. We lose Zy, but add Delane, Pickett, Anding and Jackson.
2 of our 5 overall worst graded players were Mubenga and Chester. Adding Moore and Thompson are going to be huge for Nuss and the run game.
I think this team will be much better. The challenge is the schedule is going to be more difficult and Kelly is going to have to have the team playing well from game 1 and be consistent throughout the season which he hasn't been able to show yet.

Brian Kelly is still HC

Don’t matter unless you can coach the team up.
Posted on 1/10/25 at 9:24 am to BayouCowboy
Sounds great, but I'll wait until after the Clemson game before I even start to reconsider my position on him.
Posted on 1/10/25 at 9:29 am to BayouCowboy
Kelly's biggest problem isn't getting good players here. It's making adjustments during the game in a timely manner. That and hiring decent coordinators.
Posted on 1/10/25 at 9:36 am to BayouCowboy
talent may be better, but he hasn’t made any changes to the coaching staff. kelly is who he is, he will continue to be deficient in his coaching skills.
Posted on 1/10/25 at 9:46 am to BayouCowboy
He’s not going to do anything. 9-3 at best. Then the sunshine pumpers will be back in here shouting “wait till next year”.
It’s like Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football for them.

I'm tired of stories like this USA Today guy's. He's just another guy fishing for clicks.
It's a lazy story -- "Kelly doesn't fit, Kelly is unlikable, Kelly is overrated," blah blah blah.
It's trite. So no coach "fits" in the SEC unless he talks like he has a mouthful of marbles?
Kelly brings an intelligent, measured, much-needed fresh voice to the LSU program. I have no doubt he will win a national championship here.
But let some outsider media guy bash him and feed into the "Nobody likes Kelly" (which hurts recruiting) myth, and this board can't wait to rush tin and agree.
Y'all are pathetic.
And F-U, usa today.
