We have run well before but they have to respect the pass just a lil to be effective

For some reason we have matched up well running the ball with Alabama recently other than the BCS game last year. In 09' we had a horrid offense that struggled to run on the likes of Vandy but really ran well until Charles Scott went down in the Alabama game. In 2010 we ran the bell very well on Alabama. In the regular season game last year we ran for more yards than Alabama as well. Although one would think that LSU would struggle to run on them recent history says otherwise.

they had to respect Jefferson ability to run to some extent. We don't have that this year.

I'm sure they don't respect the pass at all right now but I doubt they stack the box regardless. They really don't need to.

the answer is yes, but

the but is can Mett hurt them enough in the passing game to drop the safeties back

and/or but we have to find a way to get the ball to the edges with Ford toss sweeps, Shep, quick WR screens

those things will open up between the tackles type power running that is our best weapon

but we have proven that it is difficult to run vs 8/9 man fronts against anyone if we face 8/9 fronts and fail to make them pay it's gonna be hard to run effectively and get scores or even first downs

If we put at least three receivers wide..one back, and make them cover the whole field. If they stack the box, its insane to try and run up the middle....

I don't think we can if we go with Spencer Ware and Hilliard a lot because of their style of running.

But I think Hill could bust some big ones because he has vision for small holes and has serious acceleration when he hits the hole. Ford is also really fast and could possibly attack the outside. That would be my plan. Ford had success against them last year in game #1. Hill has had two impressive games against South Carolina and the Aggies. He's the guy that can break one so you have to give it to him a lot.

LSU's rushed for over 200 yards the last two Alabama games in Tiger Stadium.

I think so. Their LBs are the strength, not their DL. What "great" run game have they even had to defend yet?

MSU did have the SEC's leading rusher.

To compare MSUs RB (who may happen to be the leading rusher in the SEC) with our RBs is insane. We have 3 guys that are better...

I think we run for 175+, but we need at least 100 yards of passing to win the game.

Big BIG challenge for our coaches (and players)...I sure hope we're bragging on the game plan & execution after this game. If we do the same things we've been doing, could be bad. I hope & think we'll be ! Geaux Tigers!!

With a rotation of 6 running backs, Blue, Ware, Ford, Hilliard, Hill, and Copeland, Les will keep pounding the Gumps with fresh legs until someone breaks loose on a 50-yarder. It's always been CLM's fb philosophy, attack the box, attack the box...

Yes. We will be able to run the ball. How effectively is the question, and that will depend on Mett. He will have to be productive and make some throws that count at the right times. He will not be a non factor in this game, if he doesn't make some throws and keep Bama from stacking the box, we will be at a disadvantage.

LSU will not utilize the Forward Pass in this Foot-Ball contest.

LSU will Run the Foot-Ball with Authority.

LSU win the Game with the Field Goal and the Drop Kick.

it ain't their DL dude, it's their LB's and safeties.

I have a feeling we will try. We will 1 yard, and cloud of dust them, play conservative, and see how much they can score. Then, if we fall behind, start throwing late..

this, unfortunately be the best formula to beat bama. yes, many fans want to ramp our O up with multiple optioned plays involving lots of pass routes and quick qb decision making. but, we are simply not qualified to do that successfully. we have a qb that trips over his own feet and is slow as hell. he is a drop back pro style guy that is inecperienced. eli manning type. the only way mett will bring us to the promised land is if he gets comfortable and confident and takes control of the team and is very intelligent. is he this? the jury is out. he has a legitimate shot imo. it will just take a little while longer.

We're going to have to.

The last 4 teams to beat Alabama have had at least 37 rushing attempts and no more than 20 pass attempts.

Running the ball is the key to beating Alabama

Yep.

We were told in 08 we couldn't run on them, and ran for almost 200 yards.

Last year, all we did was run.

Yes, but we will have to run between the tackles. Outside runs are not gonna work against Bama, their linebackers are too good. Not to compare LSU to MSU, but MSU kept trying to hit the outside and ran into a wall every time.
