re: Can we now admit there should be an open QB battle under the new regime?

Harris had good and bad but overall decent numbers. Etling shined in the soft stretch of the schedule. He was well below average in his two biggest games this year.

Harris sucked against inferior competition. It's laughable to think he would do any better against the meat of the SEC.

O just said that Harris needs to show more in practice

Yes
I believe Harris can still have success under the right HC and scheme
Especially a wide open offense

Shouldn't every position be a constant open competition?

I'm basing it on Harris's career at LSU. He has struggled against the garbage teams. Hell, he struggles going against air for that matter. Have you heard about his practices?
If you want to burn Scott's redshirt or give McMillan a try, fine. But Harris's ship has sailed. It didn't work. We moved on.

I agree for the most part. Just find it interesting that people are just now starting to like the blame the line and not the QB excuse. Harris was running for his life against Wisky worse than DE was Sat
Yep. As if Harris played behind a stellar OL.

Do you not ever recall Harris having good protection and still throwing wide, low, or high? I do. Go back and watch some of his games. It was bad.

I would expect Harris to turn it around. The question is does he stick around for it?
Well I certainly would not blame him for telling us to shove up our azzes.

BH looks lost out there. It does no good to have all the measurables if you're confused and can't go through a progression. I'm sure BH is a great kid and he might go somewhere else and turn it around, but I think his time has passed at LSU.

the point where three wide open receivers were missed, two unnecessary timeouts taken, one delay of game taken.
That point, you gotta try something. It literally could not be worse.
it could not be worse then 0-0 against the best team in the country?
man, you have some tough standards

why do people think Harris is not good because of the scheme?
at the end of the day he is still a 53% passer. Watch him thrown, watch him attempt to process, watch his pocket awareness. The scheme isnt Brandon Harris' problem

as far as offense goes, it really couldn't be that much worse, could it?

Exactly. Like I said, he struggles against air at practice. He's just not very good.

and neither is Etling
so let them compete, which is the point of this thread

just dont see how people favor Etling
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and help you.
I'm guessing it has to do with how our offense has flowed and performed since he took over.
With that being said, if he struggles rest way out BH certainly deserves another shot.

Had we fallen behind earlier you probably would have seen Harris. The fact that it is 0-0 for nearly 50 minutes makes it hard to change to the QBs. Etling wasn't exactly playing great, but he also didnt gift wrap any points for Bama.
And in the end we still had a chance to win it. They were looking for 1 play either on offense or defense to give us the win. That is what it boiled down too. Bama made that play, we didn't. It would have been wrong(and risky, more than anything) to throw Harris in there and ask him to try and win the game

Were you one of those that said DE wasn't very good before Sat night happened?
Just curious.

He has been very average against weak competition. I like Etling, before this game he has moved in the pocket well and typically hit the right WR
but he reverted or played scared Saturday, he held the ball way too long and was running out of the pocket instead of stepping up
he basically turned into Harris from earlier this year
