When someone starts a sentence with “I feel…” we all know it will not be an evidence based thought. We also know the estrogen levels are running high.
It’s probably too late to grow some balls for you, but just know these young men signed up for pressure. That’s why they are here.
They do not need estrogen overdosed fans preaching about what they FEEL a hardworking college football player can and can’t handle.

Pressure is a privilege. Kiffin said that. Saban said that. But we've got menstruating fans who worry about the pressure a jersey number brings. I guarandamntee you that the players want that #7 jersey. They want that focus on them. They want that pressure.

Bert Jones jersey retired, not number. So there can be another #7 but not by player named Jones.

I'm for getting rid of awarding it every single year, but I think the players should be allowed to request it, and there should be some sort of 7 committee that is extremely harsh when it comes to denying guys from being allowed to have it.
For example, Giles, Chark, and Jacoby Stevens all would have been a hard no. Love Chark and he was a damn good player for us, but he's not a generational talent. On this year's team, the only guys worthy in my opinion are Trey'dez, Pickett, Seaton, and Lamar Brown. If one of those guys want it, then they can have it. I think this would put the omen on the players worthy of the number to actually step up to the plate and take ownership of it, and guys who get denied for it can use that as a chip on their shoulder. Just because you get denied the 7 doesn't mean you can't still ball the frick out.
Almost every year there are a few guys that could stake their claim on the 7 if they wanted it, but it should not be something that is forced out there every year, because that's how we get guys wearing it that water down the tradition.

This is now pro ball. They are paid millions; they better have pressure to go out and make plays regardless of what number is on the jersey.

Up to the staff and team - if they like it, keep it. If they don't, get rid of it.
Quite possible the team loves it, and if so, no reason to rock the boat for no reason.
I am sure it is a huge badge of honor to wear 18 / 7 considering the long list of decorated tigers who have before them.

Whenever I start to care about 7 & 18 traditions, I remind myself that it helps their draft stock. NFL teams like knowing their guy got the special number in college as it shows the players and coaches respected him.

The best player often knows they are the best player or at least thinks they are. That is a reward to that player for all their hard work and their commitment to LSU. It is to show they are someone to look up to or an honor to achieve. Fans only see the number and the tradition not the work it took to get there. This is no different than an mvp of the team award.
