I don’t think you quite understand just how much money the Saints make the New Orleans metro area.
WTF are Monroe, Ruston, Shreveport, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Lafayette and Baton Rouge getting from the Saints other than a tax bill?

Lazy rivers and lush dorms draw mediocre students so LSU can say its serving more students. Libraries don't.
A microcosm of LSU under fking (thanks Jindal) .

Shoulda spent money and budgeted money on a new library roof instead of building that worthless pool that attracts students and sucks in student loan money but does not enhance the educational experience.

All I'm saying is that LSU made a bad deal with TAF. TAF would be nothing if it couldn't market LSU athletics. There is no LSU atletics without LSU. Both sides need to sit down and negotiate
This has to be the most STUPID comment of the year. You say BOTH sides NEED to sit down and negotiate? Negotiate what? The money that LSU Athletics generates is done so via the PRIVATE Sector and donated for a specific cause (in this case LSU Athletics). The money DONATED by LSU Athletics to the Academic side of LSU is already going to a cause it was not donated for by the Donor.
So in your spirit of Communism you think LSU Athletics now needs to "negotiate" why it has money that was by law generated from the private sector and you want your hands on it.
In essence you are saying "you have money, I want it, so negotiate with me and I will let you keep some of it". Even though these funds are not taxpayer generated funds you actually believe The Athletic Department owes the School money. Instead you snowflakes should be raising Hell at the Legislature which continues to under fund LSU and continues to fund too damn many 4 year Universities in Louisiana. There is no damn reason for example to have 2 4 year Universities 6 miles apart in rural North Louisiana at Grambling and Ruston. Another example is having a 4 year University in Natchitoches with just 6,000 students. These cost tons of money to support and it is long overdue for this to be seriously looked at by the State.

Taught ROTC at Southern and you could see daylight coming in through the roof of McNair Hall. Just wish society valued an education as much as it does sports and entertainment. But the masses clamor for bread and circus!

I believe some still value education.
People value the money makers though and we sure do like to be entertained.
I'd like to see a value of competent leaders at the top.

Well, Southern loses money on athletics too so I miss your point.

Wonder if people would stop squawking if TAF adopted the library too. They could have a Sports History wing.

LSU can fix the library leak any time they want to. They do not fix it in order to agitate for funding.
There are several ridiculous degree programs. And other useless fluff administrative positions. Whatever lost cause.

The elite does value education which is why they don't want the masses to have it.

It completely falls on bloated administrative staff. Too many people doing the same jobs poorly and lazily, but no, everyone wants to create an extra position to give their neighbor’s cousin’s son a job at the school. They could at least over hire professors instead if they’re going to spend so carelessly on unneeded staff.

Both funded by the same state. And half the students (Navy/Marine) were from LSU. But they weren't athletes, they just wanted to serve their country, so they had to scrape the bird shite off their chairs before they could sit in them. Now if they could throw the rock...

Of course TAF could raise money for the library. They can raise money for whatever they want, and they can say a library helps the football team by maintaining LSU as a preeminent university in the south.
If the net result of this media firestorm is that TAF decides to use its fundraising muscle to help build a library the school desperately needs, then I think that would be a win for everyone. Nearly every athletic program save hoops has a new facility, there's not much left to build. Use TAF to help the school and indirectly, the athletics program. Those kids go to school at LSU, too.
Obviously, TAF doesn't have to do this, but it would be nice if they wanted to. Turn the spin around.

No.... TAF just spent 28 million on beds and lights for halftime naps.

LSU cant even afford to pressure wash buildings it seems like.

They should stop spending the taf money on useless faculty positions.

Yes, libraries are absolutely necessary.
In lower and middle school, yes. High school, maybe. College, absolutely not, use your phone, laptop, iPad, or the computers offered by your specific college.
Public libraries in 2019 are an enormous waste of money. Young kids have access to libraries at their school. Adults should pay for their own entertainment with their money, not tax payer money. Reading a book as an adult shouldn’t be some free service. Meeting to teach your sewing or art class can happen somewhere else as well.

No. TAF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that depends on private donations. You can't reallocate private donations for purposes outside the original donors intentions.
Posted on 7/25/19 at 4:16 am to RockChalkTiger
The point is that LSU is being criticized for using PRIVATE donations and some on here want their hands on money that money for Academic use.
In Southern's case they lose money on athletics to begin with so you're comparing 2 completely different situations. Yes, both schools suffer from the state underfunding but LSU is being attacked for spending private funds in the Athletic Department which is very profitable and receives zero state dollars. That is the difference.
