Can LSU beat Bama without big plays?

The past couple games the majority of our scores have come off big plays of 40+ yards, and I just don't see that happening vs bama. We're going to have to have consistent O line play to allow fournette and guice room to average at least 3-5 yards per carry, and Etling is going to have to make some plays for us on 3rd downs. I'm a little concerned to say the least

by big plays you mean fournette running over defensive players as he scores multiple touchdowns?

Ehh, probably not. They've got a good defense. So does LSU. You usually don't beat good defenses by driving the ball methodically possession after possession. The winning team will likely have a big play or two that makes the difference.

Yeah, just like he did last year until we played bama.
And it's not just fournette. Guice has busted a couple and Etling has thrown a few bombs on busted coverage. I can't help but think those opportunities won't be so plentiful against this D

I think the formation where one of Guice/Fournette are lined up in the backfield and the other flexed out, is going to be key against Bama.

I disagree to some extent. We will have to make big plays against bama or at least try. We will have to do it in a different way, back shoulder passes and deep jump balls or over the top. This will open it up for big plays from LF and Guice. I do agree our OL has to play their most physical and consistent game of the year here but I think they are the freshest they have ever been for this game. We will have to get our TEs involved hopefully D Smith is ready to go for this game. He could have a big game if we use him properly. Mix in wheel routes/screens and dink and dunk with big plays down field and we have a very good chance to beat bama. Back shoulder passes are the key to passing on bama imo. I think Etling is accurate enough to complete these and a few of them can take their corners off their game.

LSU will have to play a near perfect game along with Bama making a couple mistakes to be able to win. That's the way it goes when you're playing against the best talent and coaching staff in the nation.

So will bama imo, pressure is on them and coach O should just be letting them have fun these next two weeks. Play loose is key to playing msitake free, it helps anyway. Clear their minds and have them focused and ready is all they can do. They don't have their best player and leader at corner so we can take advantage of that. Our WRs need to be going thru rigerous physical training these next two weeks to get ready for a physical game. They need to be ready to catch hard fought balls in a box! We have to have a intermediate pass game at the very least to bust big runs against them. OL has to hold ground against these guys on PA and long pass plays. Stack the box on bama or stuff that middle and have them going around the ends for Beckwith and the linebackers to clean up.

it'd certainly be a lot easier than having to drive down the entire length of the field against their D.

No. I think we'll need one or two of those, maybe not to score but to keep a drive alive, spark the crowd etc. Now can we beat them w/o trick plays? Absolutely.

We'll definitely have to play mistake free football...We keep it close in the 4th and create a turnover or return a punt maybe.... We got a resl shot...

The 2012 game is what we need to reproduce. We dominated offensively and just blew the game with soft-Chavis defense on that final drive. Hell even the 2014 game we dominated them defensively holding them to 10points until the final 1min when again, Chavis clutch defense blew it.
The 2012 game, I think we had something like 7 plays of 20yds or more.

Gotta hit Bama with something they won't expect. They have 2 weeks to prepare.. LSU has 2 weeks to prepare too. I'm excited to see the results of a 2 weeks of real & actual preparation.

I am willing to put money down that he doesnt do this at all vs Bama.

If the LSU defense and ST gives the offense a short field then yes LSU can win without big plays.

'Bama is not immune to a coverage bust. We'll see how well they do without Eddie Jackson.
History has shown that backups are more prone to devastating busts. Brandon Taylor being forced into CB coverage on Julio in '09 comes to mind.

Why not? They've given up several this year.
ETA: What kind of pussies do we have on tRant where saying Bama gives up big plays is worthy of a downvote?

Don't know but I think the big plays will come bc DE will find streaking wide receivers open down the middle bc of the Bama safeties cheating up and run blitzing.

Can Bama beat LSU without big plays?
It goes both ways you know. The Tigers won't be going into this game scared of Bama like our posters here seem to be. I get the feeling that these defensive scores that Bama gets are partly due to the mindset of their opponents playing scared or on their heels. LSU will go into this one knowing that they are equals to Bama as opposed to an underdog under pressure to beat a better team.
As for big plays... that is how Bama has been beating their opponents this year. What happens when they face an opponent who isn't drained in the 4th qtr and isn't afraid to play them tight man to man and run right at them in the 2nd half?
We have our best tackle back after a month of rest and two Road Grader Guards to go along with the best Center in the nation.
I am getting tired of my fellow LSU fans posting all of this crap about LSU needing to play the game of their lives and Bama playing a B game for an LSU victory. That's just bullshite. LSU is a better team right now than they have been in a long time. I guess that it will just take a victory over Bama to prove it.
