Burrow made our 19 O-line look a lot better than they were.

1. Excellent footwork
2. Escapability
3. Toughness to hang in the pocket till someone gets open over the middle
4. Taking pressure off the run game by being able to complete balls all over the field.
5. Making the correct protection calls

Prove me wrong.

While true, that doesn’t mean we can’t improve. It also doesn’t mean we haven’t improved the last two games. We’re definitely not where we need to be, though.

It was a perfect storm of his elite talent being paired with a smart and aggressive playcaller. I put so much of 2019’s success on Coach E because but for him basically telling O “I trust this kid [Brady] let him run anything he wants”, they aren’t nearly as productive.

The ‘19 O line improved as the season aged. Did you not see the pass protection he was given vs Georgia and Oklahoma? He had a month to throw the ball.

True...but wouldn't that require the line to have give and hold the pocket open for him to do that?

True...and he completed a lot of 20+_yard pass plays...again wouldn't that require the line to have given him time to accomplish this?

Making the correct protection calls

True...but also recognizing blitz's and dumping the ball off quickly to the hot route or to the receiver left open from the blitz...

Burrow AND Clyde. How many times were there free runners that Clyde juked or spun out of?

Not exactly, you can throw all kinds of throws where the ball is coming out fast and it’s in the air 20+ yards or catch and run situations for 20+ yards. People are misconceived that you always need “more time holding blocks” to throw deep balls and that’s not always true.
For a guy like Burrow especially, because he was so good at pre and post snap reads, he could put up a deep ball and the line didn’t have to hold blocks for more than 2 seconds.

19 oline was the best in the country. This oline is getting better, but max needs to read the blitz better and setup protection. I like that LSU was calling a play and running the play, seems like they simplified the approach this week.

Very true. That O-line was average at best. Don't care how good they were thought to be. Joe's scrambling ability saved their bacon!!

Top 15 maybe but not the best in the country. Joe made them look better than they were but they were not nearly as bad as this years group.

I agree with your statement...but I am speaking with what I watched during that 2019 season with that oline...I have rewatched every game multiple times and many of Joe's throws for 20+ yards were true 20+ yards, not 5 yard dumps going for long distances, and the oline gave him the protection he needed to complete those throws...

Even Burrow would not be able to do what he did in 2019 with this oline...

I agree. But our offensive power took the pressure off a very average defense. Aranda is a great coach but the '19 defense was average at best.

They never looked good to me. Clyde would just teleport back and forth, dodging everyone who's break through, and Burrow would just burn them anyway. I know they were rated highly based on sacks given up and all, but that was on Burrow and Clyde, imo.
