YPC - Daniels averaged almost 3 YPC more than Newton
5.9 Vick (2000)
5.6 Newton (2010)
8.4 Daniels (2023)
RYPG - Newton averaged 7 more carries/game than Daniels
061.7 Vick (2000)
105.2 Newton (2010)
94.5 Daniels (2023)
PYPG
123.4 Vick (2000)
203.9 Newton (2010)
317.7 Daniels (2023)
TYPG
185.1 Vick (2000)
309.1 Newton (2010)
412.2 Daniels (2023)

Both were awesome runners. Vick was shut down in numerous games though in his senior year. Newton had one of the best seasons ever as a running QB and I have no issue with anyone picking him.
But Daniels' ypc average obliterated everyone and I've never seen a QB run as smoothly as he did last year. 8.4 ypc is astounding. He averaged 14.8 ypc and had 163 yards on just 11 carries against Bama and the dude was knocked out of the game with a quarter to go. Bama has never given up yards to a QB like that in their history. Hell, even in Newton's Heisman year, Bama held him to 39 yards on 22 carries. JD was phenomenal running the ball last year.

And I'd love to see snap count.
quote:Wrong! To the contrary, Burrow had significantly more snaps than Daniels. Burrow had 15 games. Daniels had 12 games. Burrow also had more snaps per game. Daniels had only about 72% of the opportunities Burrow had.
I suspect Daniels had significantly more snaps.
Daniels had the highest single-season passing efficiency in college football history. Sports Reference
Cogitate: Pick any QB in college football history. Pick their most efficient year passing. Daniels' was better.
Daniels also had the 33rd highest single-season rushing yards per carry in college football history. Sports Reference
In 2023, Daniels had the highest passing yards per attempt and the highest rushing yards per carry of any FBS player. Sports Reference
No other player has ever done that in college football history.

Should I just rename this thread Burrow vs Daniels lol?

quote:with that defense last season? Absolutely not. If Burrow had what Jayden was dealt with last year do they beat Auburn in 2019 when the offense was stuck in a funk because of Auburn DT tandem? Does he have someone like Stingley make a crucial INT in the end zone against Florida to have breathing room for a dagger drive? Or a defense make multiple 4th down stops against Texas in the redzone? Show me where Jayden Daniels had that. Joe’s the greatest QB to play at LSU but he also benefited playing with a real good defense that made the stops and got turnovers when needed. You him give that shitshow we saw last year the record is probably the exact same compared to Daniels.
Man you folks claiming Daniels>Burrow are crazy. Burrow would have beaten FSU, Ole Miss and Bama last season

The 2019 LSU defense was NOT very good during the season due to suspensions, grades and injuries. It got good in December.

Daniels did put up better numbers that Burrow.
Apples and oranges. Completely different quarterbacks. Burrow was absolutely surgical the way he played the game. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more accurate college QB who made such great decisions in just about every situation. But Jayden was insanely good too.
Where Jayden would floor people due to his athleticism and just the things he could do physically (passing and running), Burrow would rip people’s hearts out with his mind to the point where you actually felt bad for anyone who played against him. There was a thing about Burrow, you just “knew” things were going to turn out well. Jayden had that too and it was masked by a disastrous defense, but with Burrow it was extremely pronounced.
We were extremely lucky to have both because almost no one could do shite about either one of them.

I also agree with another poster that I don’t think Burrow loses 3 games at his best. I absolutely believe he beats FSU.
Also worth noting how many ranked teams LSU beat in 2019 vs 2023.

Sounds similar to Ryan Perrilloux when he was coming in, saying 4 national Titles and 4 heismans.

Look at us. Arguing over which one of our Heisman winning QB's was better than the other. If you would have told me in 2017 that we would ever be afforded this luxury I would have told you how crazy you were.

Yes, I would have recommended therapy and a straight jacket for anyone who would have predicted such a thing.

Nice work in this thread.
Those all-time numbers for Daniels still seem somewhat underrated.
I remember watching #1 on that YPA list, Alridge. He was so quick. He made me think of the kind of player Allen Iverson would've been if AI played college football.

That defense was on the field a lot, because we would score so damn quick. We had a lot of 2, 3, 4 play drives - 14 yard pass to Jefferson, 9 yard pass to Moss, 37 yard TD to Chase

How about this: Both were great and we were lucky to have them. It is not possible to say who would have done what.
