If we started with Southeastern and LA Tech would be a lot easier to figure out some of these position battles on the OL, alas, baptism by fire against one of the best DLines in the country at Clemson game 1 in a hostile environment. Hope they are able to choose correctly and we dont go into the next few weeks rotating guys on the OL to figure out who actually is best, because that means 1 or 2 guys got pushed around badly game 1.

I'm not expecting a win at Clemson for that reason, but just two weeks later, LSU has Florida, and they have a nasty DL as well. LSU doesn't have long to figure things out there.

Clemsons DL isn’t as good as what they see in practice

I think everyone in the coaching staff knew that curne was more talented than Davis or mubenga or echols. It was just about was he mentally ready and did he get enough reps. Within time he will be starting. If not right away

OL update

Starters

Mubenga & Echols still battling for the other spot at OG. (No Chester) There is still a competition for RT (Davis & Curne)

It's not ideal at this point in camp to have apparently backed off two presumptive starters in Chester and Davis.

I hope Mubenga has improved his game from last year. Was it the Florida game where he and Chester were just getting their asses whipped?

Im disappointed on Chester. I gave him a bit of leeway last year. He was a new center and it probably wasn't his best suited position to begin with. I was hopeful he could kick out to guard and take his 13 games of experience, less the added responsibility of center and play pretty well at guard.

Some figuring things out, some injuries.
People will argue the point of having a tough opponent week 1. You don’t figure these things out by dominating a SE or LA Tech. Better to get tested Week 1 & figure it out before SEC

You also have factor in the heat & having big guys getting accustomed to playing a full 4 quarters of football. Game one will be a hot one in Clemson so it's a must to have backups ready if cramping becomes an issue at any point.

It’s not that people don’t want to read others opinions on the OL , the fact that The coaches have been doing this for years and fans don’t think they know what they are doing.BK has been a head coach for 34 yrs and has what 300 wins but he’s incompetent, give me a break. He had very good OLs at ND and many future pros and a lot of the opinion is he sucks.Assinine.

The problem is we have an OC that didn’t earn his job. Sloan isn’t high level SEC caliber and if you don’t believe me, go look at his resume.

With less than two-weeks before a MASSIVE (potentially season defining) game, you'd like to see some certainty at the spot that is considered the team's biggest question mark going into the season. Particularly, where there appears to be uncertainty with the group's only returning starter (Chester).

Then again, this could also be by design to "push" the presumptive starters at LG and RT, whereas the other spots may not need as much "pushing".

Kelly said that Chester was competing at center, guard and tackle… But he was not mentioned specifically when he talked about the position battles mentioned in the first post

I totally agree which is why I mentioned the fatigue & cramping possibility in a hot opener. It's something we see year after year in openers with players cramping up especially late in games. You even see it happen in games played in domes & less humid parts of the country. Your larger players are even more susceptible yet it's not something most fans would even think about leading up to a game like this but you best believe it's something the coaching & training staff are preparing for.

Interesting no mention of Chester at OG. He started 13 games last year, but he was not good.

Chester was our lowest graded run/pass blocker among the starting o-line last season. I think if Coen Echols progressed at all from last season, he could get the LG job. I don’t see how Chester couldn’t be better than last year at his natural position though.
