Seems to me there are very few player coaches at the college level… leadership needed at college level week in - week out

By all accounts, Kelly has laid back some since he came down here. In general, Kelly seems like the teacher that some kids hate because he holds them accountable, but come to appreciate him later in life.
If this team takes care of business in workouts, off the field, practice, and the classroom, I have a feeling he will be more relaxed. Right now he’s trying to flip the whole program culture.

Brian Kelly’s not going to be the guy that you see doing the Shane Beamer thing where he does the Soulja Boy before the SEC Media Day.
Only because he doesn't know what that is.

If you noticed the 3 young men he invited to SEC media days you can tell by his choices he has a high standard for excellence and expects it from everyone. Some don’t like that mindset but it’s a winning mindset.

He can absolutely be a player's coach for the right players.
This is true. Saban is a harder arse than Kelly. Saban's former players like Hester (AKA 'Stubby Legs'-Saban's nickname for Jacob), still love and respect him.

Eh, “player’s coach” is such an ambiguous term and can really be applied to any coach at the college level. IMO, Kelly absolutely is a players coach in that he cares, wants them to be successful and develop into the best they can be, and have a little fun while doing it. He also has the road map for them to do all of those things. THAT is the ultimate player’s coach in my mind. Saban has that same type of mentality.

If the new head coach would learn to keep his mouth shut and let the team do his talking, it will happen soon enough.
Then he can pointificate.

100% clickbait title...

I bet he’s more of a players coach than you think.
But he also instills discipline. Once he recognizes that you can handle your business, he can loosen up.

"We’ll have to see how the a-hole coaches fare with the current rules of the transfer portal and NIL. If a coach gets too rough, a kid will just go to the next school…and if he is any good, will probably come out better."
I suspect that a Coach that holds players accountable will be more successful in the long run in this era of NIL. LSU will always have talented players and better chance for a great team with players that are better trained and equipped due to accountability.

Coaching is just managing. You can be a firm manager where it matters and also let those under you enjoy their job. People respect you as long as you are justified and fair.

Idk because he's been acting more like a players coach since he joined LSU.
