good trolling by him or just plain dumb optimism. he does not know what the word realistic means. he tried saying last year we had best talent in country. better than bama.

I agree, recruiting rank will give us confidence in our backfield, but if we’re going off of college production, then we are looking at a whole lot of unknowns and hoping. That’s why we are seeing such differences in opinion in this thread.
For the record I’m hopeful that these guys show out this season

It’s refreshing to hear “coach speak “ spoken so well. After listens to the incoherent ramblings of Les and the Shrimp Boat Captain this is a welcome change.

Most of us thought CEH was going to be average before the 2019 season, just saying.

If you did, shame on you.

Saw him in a scrimmage against Breaux Bridge. Any D1 there should have offered that day.

Did you not see what Kelly said? The most talented backfields have a guy like Fournette, such as Texas’ Bijan Robinson.

Exactly. This is coach speak for "I wish it were better, but this is the hand I was dealt". He said pretty much the same thing about the DB's.

Our backs are serviceable but we don't have a super star.

The state hasn't had that type of back in the last few recruiting cycles so that hasn't helped. Getting Frank Wilson back is a plus to getting the Tigers back in the mix for those type of backs as well.

Kelly was in a tough position recruiting wise last year, so
I understand why. But going 0-3 on Moss, Citizen and Ettiene sucked. There is a good chance that any of the three would be pushing for major carries this year.

Brian Kelly expresses excitement for LSU's depth at running back

Unproven OL
No standout RB
Possible dilemma at QB
New playbook for everyone

About as exciting as passing a kidney stone.

I'm excited to see this new era of Bayou Bengal glory begin!

Lol. Yea if talent is counted in stars in recruiting. Emory is a stud but we wouldn’t know. Noah Cain is a versatile guy but not elite by any standard. Josh Williams is just a hard working dude who wants it and runs with heart. Goodwin excites me most, but he has yet to have more than like a dozen touches in a season lol. We have potential for sure and I think we should be fine. But yea not loaded

I didn't hear excitement. However, he just might be suppressing some because:

A) IF we can get Emery on the field I full expect him to be a marquee guy. Maybe not the best all around back ever, but I'm thinking Chubb level for sure.

B) It is possible that Cain gets back to form and is well above average, and durable. "well above average" meaning very good, just short of national star, living up to his hype coming out of college. Never underestimate a "money year" combined with a fresh start and injury free.

C) As many said here already, Goodwin is going to shock some people. He's got speed, balance, can catch, and some wiggle. Durability and size are a concern; but size takes a back seat for "slipperyness" and strenght with RBs (see Warrick Dunn).

D) Put any of those 3 with Daniels, who has wheels, and a competent Read-Option playbook and it COULD be lethal.

IF all of those come to fruition there are reasons for the staff to be very excited. I think, personally, if CBK is excited it is based on the HOPE that those will come to fruition. But he above anybody else whether that hope is hopeless, or we're really close and it is warranted.

And this is behind an OL that will steadily improve because it is very talented but inexperienced (at this level) and are in a new offense (again). So they will steadily get better every week to compliment all of that.

Will only take a couple weeks to find out.

If any of them are Chubb level we’ll win 10-11 games

Yeah, that’s on me.

But I don’t think we’re deep there at all. Cain is still coming back from a bad injury, and only averaged 3.3 ypc in over 100 carries last year. We HOPE he returns to his pre-injury form, but haven’t seen it yet. Goodwin is hobbled. Josh Williams is a nice player, but he is who he is. And who knows about Emery. We can win with those guys. We just can’t afford any significant injuries. That’s why I say we’re not deep. Kelly said it without saying it when he mentioned the walk-on Demas.

I’m not down on any of the backs individually or all of them as a whole. I just worry about what that group will look like toward the end of the brutal SEC schedule and think we need to REALLY get lucky with injuries at a position that is prone to having them. I know what people think about Moscona, but his 1st segment today was about our lack of depth there if anybody wants to listen.

But I apologize again for what I said about not trusting you. I will continue to trust you and both appreciate and enjoy your threads. You do great work.

That’s how I interpreted it. However, I do think with Dellinger at Center, Bradford at RG—really all our OL—they should be strong enough to open holes for our RBs to be successful in this offense. May not bust a bunch of long touchdowns, but should be good enough to keep us ahead of the chains. If the OL has any issues at the beginning of the season, I think it I’ll be in pass pro. But they should get better as the season progresses and they play more together.
