This play right here is something that makes me miss JT. JT may make random mistakes at times but he's sure got a cannon arm and would have been able to gun this runner down. In Braswell's case, I'm not sure if it was due to his lack of arm strength or more about his throwing motion cuz in this play somehow he was causally side-arming it instead of putting his body behind the throw. And needless to say, his decision-making was questionable as well when he had plenty of time to force-out the lead runner at 3rd and somehow decided to go for the long throw to 1st.

I don’t hold my breath when he makes the throw to first base like I did last season with Thompson

There was little chance to get the runner at third as Braswell would have to turn his body to even make a strong throw in that direction. Actually the throw to first beat the batter if you freeze it as the ball hit the first baseman's glove.

JT could make plays that Braswell cannot. Braswell doesn't overthink the easy plays like JT did.

All do respect to JT but Braswell has been an upgrade.
Bras may not have elite range/arm but he does have an elite glove and makes alot of hard plays look easy. Out of all the things to be down about Braswell's defense is not one of them.

Braswell is a good SS. I’m not sure where lsu fans develop their standards from.

Downs is a strong runner, that’s a tough play

If they aren't at minimum Cal Ripken Jr. then they aren't LSU standard

JT had tremendous range and a stronger arm. Bras has a better glove and his throws are more predictable.

JT was a good to very good shortstop despite what the rantards thought but he was not a great shortstop. Too many errors, 50 in 195 games, at least 15 every season. JT had flashes with his bat, often in opportune moments but he also had long droughts at the plate. Decent power but poor BA.

I think Braswell is a very good shortstop and usually breaks on the ball well which sometimes makes up for his limited range but I think his range is what will keep him from achieving the great level at SS. He has had 18 errors in 125 games at So Car and LSU with 9 being his high water mark in his freshman year at USCe. He lacks the power that JT had but he gets on base more consistently and has a slightly better batting average.

LSU should be able to do better than both Thompson and Braswell at the SS position. It's not they are bad players but LSU should be able attract a great player especially at SS.

That's a good way to put it. So far, from what I've seen, I'd take Braswell.

On that play he was looking to throw to 2nd. When he saw the guy was there, he never reset, he just threw over to 1st. That caused the lack of velocity on the throw.

Milam be our starting SS before the end of the year! Braswell ‘s arm is erratic!

I can't agree.

I think, so far, we've gotten more out of Braswell than we thought we would have.

Braswell and JT two different kinds of players at SS. So far Braswell has shown to be more consistent making the routine plays. JT had more range and would make the spectacular play here and there but screw up a routine play. Both have strong arms but Braswell takes a little off his throws in order to be more accurate. JT would throw missiles and occasionally put one in the dugout. Pluses and minuses to both but Braswell is a good consistent SS who I think will continue to improve at the plate.

JT had the arm talent to make plays that ended up on SC top 10, but he also had accuracy that could land him on SC Not top 10. Anyone who consistently watched games knew it was 50/50 when the ball was hit to him if we would record an out or an error. He was frustrating bc the routine plays felt like more times than not ended in error but then he would wow everyone with a play that only a handful of humans on the earth can make.

Bras has a much lower ceiling but seems like a more sure and steady option. You just won’t see many, if any at all, highlight reel plays from him.

With that said, at the plate it feels like he is flying under the radar and had a pretty decent weekend.

I wouldn’t be opposed to flipping him and Milam and seeing what that looks like but I’m also ok with the current situation. MB was the least of our problems this weekend.
