He's not going to leave Chapel Hill.

How many times did he look at two strikes, then swing at a ball out of the zone? It seemed like a lot.

Time to tamper and go get the freshman catcher from UNC when they get eliminated

I get when we do this about mid major programs but can we stop acting like we can pluck any player off any roster in the country? It makes us look like Bama football fans.

I feel like every time I'd watch Neal, he'd display some of the poorest ABs I've seen. Kling too.

But these young players need to stay and develop. They have the tools. Jay said as much in his presser. If this is going to become the new norm where we're relying primarily on freshmen and portal players every year it's going to be a mixed bag. More than any other program we should have the NIL and other inducements necessary to retain these guys.

I think this guy could fill a spot now that Neal is going. He's in the porta

Looking at his stats it appears he split time at C and DH, he only caught in less than 30 games

Not only that but he hit .318 at a small school. Not saying he for sure can't hit in the SEC but I would want to see the kid dominate smaller schools more than that.

I suppose we were a pretty bad SEC team this year, so changing the roster out quite a bit is not a big deal. But I am a little surprised by his departure. Basically not concerned about any pitching losses, hell at the end of the year we had 5-6 reliable arms and that was it. Jump, Holman, Guidry, Ack, Herring, Little, Ullolah, Anderson maybe, and a freak outing by Hellmers.

So about 8 arms. The rest are pretty replaceable.

You won't miss is bat. He's a sub 200 hitter.

To me, so disappointing to see what has happened to college baseball... loyalty and commitment is gone.
Secondly, something was going on with this group of young men on this year's team that JJ didn't like, and the players didn't like. This team never meshed and had no on the field leadership. I think we're seeing a departure of players who had some locker-room problems adjusting to change after the championship season. Just my opinion...

Still might have faced more real arms than the JC transfers.

Jay was very high on Neal and did everything he could to squeeze him into the lineup even when he wasn't performing. There is zero chance that JJ told Neal to leave.

I agree. Hell, Jay even put the catcher in right field trying to give Neal chances. Last year as a young freshman he was the early season starter.

This one and Kling has to sting Jay a little. Not so much because of losing the current player but losing the player Jay thought they both would develop into.

Hopefully he gets humbled when his offers are UCF, USF, FAU, and FIU and decides to stick it out here. He’s not a great catcher but we need depth.

His defense was average at best, but probably below average in the SEC. He struggled with basic defensive tasks like receiving pitches at or close to the strike zone. We will miss his depth, because we basically have 1 coming in for sure and the other one has a possibility of leaving for pro ball.
