On the type of hit is was.. Cole can turn around completely and watch the play. He doesn't even need to be standing directly on 2nd for a possible tag situation.. he can actually be off the base a little.. if it's caught.. all of the outfielder's momentum is going to opposite direction.. so he still has enough time to go back to 2nd and tag on a ball hit that far in that direction. the moment he dropped it he should have been heading to third and rounding it home.. the ball was hit to the deepest part of the field.
