To be honest yesssss it does matter. If you dont give a damn bout recruiting then no it would not. If you do not give a damn about the university income then I guess no it would not. If you do not care for the university to win a natty cause success the year before breeds success in the future. If you not a fan of lsu tigers then no I guess it does not matter In your opinion. If you not really give a damn who lsu hires in their coaches ah well I guess no it would not matter. A university gives a kid a shot for them not having to pay or worry about their education finances in giving that kid a scholarship so why cant that kid return the favor and commit to a full 3 years or a full 4 years or a full years of enrollment into that university? That university takes a chance on a kid, why should that same kid be selfish in their own right ah you what frick this university getting ready for the draft, I shouldn't have to play another game for this university. Why should a kid think that way??? Is the kid stupid?? Are they failing?? If I were the university well I would say well you owe this much to the university since you opted out before the last game so I will not honor the last so many months of your scholarship. A deal is a deal once you sign your Loi to that university. Finish your year with that school.

depends, I was really thinking about going to this bowl game since its somewhat close.
With all the opt outs and such, I doubt I will go anymore. Just doesn't seem worth it since so many of our players also don't care about it.
I thought it would be a meaningful game for LSU since it is the deciding factor in having a winning or losing season.

“I thought it would be a meaningful game for LSU“
Answer = Anytime LSU step on the field it’s Meaningful dude.
“With all the Opt outs and such “
Answer = Sounds like YOU just Opted out .. Sad!
“Just doesn’t seem worth it since so many of Our players also don’t care about”
Answer = The statement of a losing Program and a tea sipping fan base

In a transition year like this, I welcome the winter scrimmage. I’m looking forward to seeing some of our young guys and even Nuss or Kirklin (whichever).
We’re not just transitioning many players and coaches, it’s a whole new culture that is about to start.

Tell me you're young and don't value tradition without telling me

These freaking pu$$ arse millenial/ Gen Z or whatever you call them make me sick.. There was a time ('89-'94) that we would've KILLED to be in a bowl game. We finally got the Independence Bowl in '95 and it was glorious. We are spoiled as is society. It's about the game, the letters on your jersey, improving, finishing strong, and above all PRIDE.

quote:no, the difference is that there used to be 15 or so bowl games, so only the best teams played in bowls.
Bowl games have been around forever and they always seemed to matter up until a few years ago. Now, suddenly, if it’s not the CFP then bowl games are “irrelevant”
This year there are 42 bowls, so 84 out of 130 teams play in bowls.
Most of the bowls are garbage, merely because there are far, far too many of them.
Scale it back to 15 bowl games, and every one of them would matter much, much more.

Yes the mineike car tire bowl very much matters and is not all about the money.
The players sitting out these meaningful bowl games and looking out for themselves are the greedy ones. Not the ones responsible for creating the horrendous post season structure of sponsored bowl games between two 5-5 teams. Lmao

Bowl games really don't matter anymore than late regular season games. With a win they are good for positive momentum going into the spring and for ending the season on an up note and for showing that the program is going in the right direction. Really don't matter anymore than our season ending games against aTm or Arkansas.

No! The bowls still show winning matters, not every team can be in the final 4 or in a NY6 Bowl Game.

Yes, it does. True competitors know that

They definitely matter. If we're saying every game that is not played for a title does not matter than every game LSU played after Kentucky did not matter.
The Fiesta Bowl in 2018 sure as hell mattered

I sincerely hope you weren’t one of the posters advocating for a playoff against those concerned that it would undermine the college game

“It won’t be long before players are opting out of playoff games.”
You are correct and I hate it, but our new coach quit on his team when (at that time) they had a very real chance to be in the playoffs. That was worse than a player quitting to me. He is supposed to be the leader. Am I right?

Not accurate. Ask anyone who's ever played in a Rose Bowl.
College football players haven't been alive long enough to be jaded about competition, regardless of the times or social media. A better way to have said what you said would be the middle aged fanbase dgaf because we're too busy paying taxes to get all jacked up for anything but a natty...
