So we now we applaud out of wedlock births, and show preferential treatment because he is a good player? I hope for the sake of the child and the mother that Boutte does more for them than show up for the birth.

A good dad? We have no idea if he will be a good dad. He simply got a girl pregnant and will there for the birth, missing a game he probably wasn't interested playing in anyway.
Might want to wait before you crown him a good dad. Maybe wait until he's actually raising the child, living in the same household and providing everything a child needs. I hope he does, but he hasn't yet.
