He has no clue how R1 research institutions work and how to structure an administration to support those types of grants or funding.

What's impressive about it, specifically referring to as a university admin

Maybe I am not as familiar as others, but being an associate dean at Northern Arizona and then working his way up to Pres at McNeese isn't overly impressive?

is earring guy making a final stand?

I used to work for Robbins before he went to the Univ of Arizona.
He was a football nut, and every time I saw him, he was sitting in his office watching SportsCenter. The joke when he went to Arizona was the only reason he went there was so he could have his own football team.

Which makes no sense.
McNeese certainly isn't flashy, but it serves its purpose for the area and has real practical programs that work with local employers and organizations to employ people in necessary fields.

I don't disagree. Rousse is underqualified for the position.

Did you not read Rousse's biography and then read Dalton's biography? Dalton has advanced research and funding in every place he's been. Research and driving the quality of education forward are desperately needed at LSU. Rousse was more about financial stability, enrollment growth, and just overall getting it into a better place. Vastly different backgrounds.

He was Associate Dean at North Arizona University for 4 years and then President of McNeese for one year.
To give some context, our last three presidents had the following credentials prior to leading LSU:
William F. Tate:
- 18 years as the Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Washington University
- 1 year as the President as USC
F. King Alexander:
- 4 years as President of Murray State
- 7 years as President of Cal State, Long Beach
John Lombardi:
- 9 years as President of University of Florida
- 5 years as Chancellor of U-Mass Amherst

Research and funding drive the quality of enrollment and professors. It is the lifeblood of a land/sea grant university. “Grants” equate to revenue.

He very well may be qualified. It's just a huge jump from a regional commuter school to running the Flagship System.
If Rousse had no connections to Louisiana and was the President at Jacksonville State or Eastern Kentucky and was the leading candidate - the BoS would be criticized heavily.

Tate was not president at USC. That was part of the controversy

I'm not saying these things aren't good, but what plagues Louisiana and, by proxy, LSU is the brain drain due to a state run by inept governors, city councils, and good old boy systems fueled by people that, quite frankly, the state would be better off if they passed away.

Pretty clear this is about politics not a specific resume
But I am sure he is a good man. I hope he does a good job

where'd this idea/rumor start? i haven't been following this enough to know where this started.
Started at least back in April. LSU President William Tate moves his office amid talk of splitting president, chancellor roles
quote:
Amid discussions of splitting LSU’s top leadership role into two positions, System President William Tate is moving his office to the same campus building that once held the school chancellor’s office.
LSU Board of Supervisors members Collis Temple Jr. and Rémy Starns confirmed to the Illuminator there have been discussions about splitting the two jobs, though board action has not been scheduled.
And now Rousse has mentioned it a few times over the past week. Coupled with the agenda item today, it's an easy assumption.

Okay. Disregard his one year as USC. He's still vastly more qualified than Rousse.
And I'm not arguing that Rousse should not be our next president. I'm just responding to the guy claiming that he has an impressive resume.

yea since experience is the only thing that matters right? we must keep recycling the same ole same ole...since that served us so well with BK right?
the admin structure for those types of grants and funding at a place like LSU is already in place. and he has tons of experience getting private companies to give funding for major projects. he has experience running successful business, has experience running the business school at NAU, he has experience reviving a school after a cat 5 hurricane essentially destroyed it and reversed 14 years of decline at McNeese. He got the finances in order, got the athletic facilities rebuilt, and enrollment way up.
he is also, just like Mark Emmert and Tate, a huge believer in using athletics to drive the academic side.
all you have to do is a little digging and you would see he is an outstanding candidate with real world experience. If your belief is that you must be some academic to be President of LSU well....then we will never ever agree and thats ok.
