If you're over the age of 30, you undoubtedly saw her on CBS working NFL games and the NCAA tournament, or on ESPN working college football and MLB games. She was a pretty big name in sports media for a while.
That said, it's pathetic how media members from everywhere have joined forces against Mulkey because she's daring to stand up to one of them. If journalists weren't lying, deceitful pieces of shite, Kim wouldn't have needed to give the statement in the first place.

Part of the Dawn Staley hack job.
Kim made it very clear that she didn’t respond to the USCe WP reporter (Kent Babb) after he had trashed BK shortly after he took the LSU job (small market/premier brand).
After that, it appears he recognized the small market but premier brand of LSU, which we have learned time and time again, is easy to pick on because recourse to any bullying appears petty and whiny. Add Dawn Staley’s Phillyesque thug/blowhard style, in with her media people and vendetta, you’ve got a perfect storm.
In short, Kim is not talking to this dude and nor should she. Empathetically and regardless of her political ideologies, she’s the best coach in the country who happens to have been employed in Texas. I’ll leave it at that.

Well it's the only time of the year anyone gives a shite about WBB. So the comment in OP is correct and you are correct he's trying to drop this at an inopportune time for tabloid journalism clicks/impressions.
We can wager/guess the story is going to be about some combination of attacks about her beliefs relating to same-sex orientation and/or racism, and we can also imagine this isn't going to make sense considering she's a WBB coach, a sport dominated by POCs and alphabet people.

Yes, I do find it crazy that grown fricking adults are willing to attack someone who is 100% correct in his or her reasoning to not give a reporter who clearly has an agenda any extra ammunition. Further, I also find it crazy that grown fricking adults attack someone who is right all because she may have been right in a more straightforward manner than you would’ve liked.
I couldn’t care less if someone is straightforward in their statements, especially if they’re correct on the matter. “He/She is a meany so I’ll never agree with or be on their side in a matter” people are fricking idiots.

I'm sure there are a lot of people like that, just like people hated Saban for apolitical reasons. However, a lot of it is for her:
perceived homophobia
perceived conservatism
perceived covid skepticism.
It's all over Reddit. I personally think some of those are pretty shaky accusations. She supposedly told Griner and some of the others at Baylor to tone it down at a conservative Baptist college. BFD. That was just advising them to read the room. If they didn't like it they shouldn't have gone to Baylor. You can't be a homophobe and coach women's sports. You wouldn't get any recruits. I don't know what her political leanings are. And she rippped her mask off at the introductory LSU press conference. Again, BFD. Covid was on the wane by then.
There's also a "team Staley" vs "team Mulkey" thing going one, with some racial overtones to it.
