Blake Baker: A Product of Tiger Stadium?

We are all aware of LSUs record on the road I’ve the last couple of years and we are also aware of the tendency of Baker’s defenses to collapse on the road, so I thought I’d look at the numbers.
This is the scores of true road games since Baker was hired.
2024 Season
South Carolina — W 36–33
Arkansas — W 34–10
Texas A&M — L 23–38
Florida — L 16–27
2025 Season
Clemson — W 17–10
Ole Miss — L 19–24
Vanderbilt — L 24–31
Alabama — L 9–20
Oklahoma — L 13–17
2026 Season
Ole Miss — L 24–32
Kentucky — L 34–35 (OT)
That’s an average of 25.2 PPG, allowing 370.3 YPG. These numbers are simply not good enough for the highest paid coordinator in the sport, bottom line.

How does that compare to home games? I’d stick to SEC opponents

I just don't think he's that good in the modern game. He only does well against overmatched teams or teams with a pro-style QB.
Put him against a hurry-up offense with even a slightly mobile QB and look at the panic in his eyes.

He's not average. He's below average. LSU can and should do better.

Lot of close losses there. Overlay time of possession due to shite arse LSU offense too.

Can play it both ways, we won @SC but got absolutely torched by their offense a couple years ago..

There’s a saying in football that ignorant fans will always blame the QB for everything. The Rant could be a case study to prove that adage.

You all complain but I know of a few prior to him that makes everything he does look excellent.

Look at the improvement from 24 to 25. And that includes an offense with one of the worst rushing attacks in the country and a turnover prone QB.

Not good.
That last 2 minutes of the UK game was horrible. I barely had the stomach to watch it again today. Almost every play was a pass play. and I counted 2 or 3 guys on every play covering no one. The passes were long too, not the 4 to 8 yard variety. I guess that's what a soft zone looks like. It looked like we only had 6 guys playing the game.
On their punt return, there were 2 blocks in the back and the runner barely stepped out of bounds, but they couldn't quite find a camera angle that clearly showed it. The best angle showed about 95% of the shoe, and a guys shoulder was covering up where the sole of the shoe was touching the line.
On the 1st play of the game, one of our def guys tripped and fell to the ground right as Baxter found a little daylight. If he had been in position, Baxter may have gained 2 or 3 yrds. On another long run up the middle in the 2nd half Duece was about to grab the guy and was held as he made the move back towards the middle.. I think he may have touched him, but if he had been released a second earlier the RB goes down with a 3 yrd game. And then the QB push that was stopped with no whistle.
I think all these calls could have gone both ways, but they were all in UKs favor. and were worth about 17 points , including the tying field goal.. I think we get these calls if the game was in TS. These Refs are timid and Lane knows it. They don't make calls against an angry crowd. This game was very close even though our defense was nonexistent 75% of the game.. We need Whit back and we need baker to have a little confidence in these players. He's starting to coach like Tepper, Malveto or House. Sam gives us a small chance to win, but the D erases that chance. Both need to get better in the 2nd half to avoid a 7-5 finish..

He shite the bed in first half against Ole Miss and at the end of the KY game. He also made some great halftime adjustments in those same games.
Im not giving him a complete pass in 24-25, but his boss was a complete fricking waste, we had no running game at all, and special teams consistently gave away field position. If there was a bright spot at all in 2025, it was the defense. He was also replacing Matt fricking House.
The most glaring problem is this years road games. Even that is somewhat misleading. It is just too small of a sample size in which we have played two ranked teams who have a combined 2 losses. Its also, like all statistics, easily manipulated to fit a narrative (he also has the best Total Defense in the conference).
Baker is nowhere near the best def coordinator in the conference and certainly not the country and his defense looked like hell in the first half of the two road games and in crunch time. As did the offense.
As for what he is paid, its irrelevant until there is a cost per win national title.

The 2026 road collapse is real statistically, but the stronger three-year conclusion is that Baker has not consistently delivered elite defensive results against P4 competition. That's the issue I'd investigate before attributing the problem specifically to playing away from Tiger Stadium

Can’t blame one side without looking at the other

Or maybe take into consideration that he has coached in 6 games that didn't involve Brian Kelly. And even with the anchor of no running game, an immobile QB, and the 3 and out offense constantly losing the TOP battle, he still turned around the worst defense in the history of LSU.
Who knows if he will be the right fit moving forward, but this defense has been lights out at times, and he has made some amazing half time adjustments. It has also looked like shite at times and struggled to close out games. Like the team overall. If nothing else, can we get thru a complete season without the culture of cancer head coach pissing all over the program before we pass judgement?

I think the difference is we were tied or ahead late in both of those games and couldnt close the deal. I think Baker is solid and is by no means the main reason we lost the two games, but he did have a hand in it. I just think its mind boggling, that from a pure coaching standpoint, he is taking shite for the KY loss, when it was the offensive genius Kiffin who passed the buck and took his offense off the field when a single yard at midfield would've won the game. Hell, not going for two after the OT touchdown was a mistake as it was obvious KY would go for two,
I think Kiffin is going to do great things here. But he has made some odd in-game decisions that are 180 from what he has been his entire career.

We gave up 298 yards and a score on every drive after the opening possession vs OM in the 1st half. In what world is that acceptable or equal to what the offense did?
