How does Clemson lose to a 3-3 team and only drop to 7? How does Washington State lose to a 3-3 team 37-3 and only drop to 15?

I don't worry about any of that until well into mid November. Even then it's a crapshoot.

Funny how bias didn’t affect us from 2002 to 2012, you know, back when we were good.

Where would you have ranked them?

WOW they dropped all the way to #7, I thought they would try to keep them at 6 or 5. If we beat Bama, they would prob drop to #3 and we would gain maybe 2 or 3 spots. This isnt anything new

If your college football experience is relative to your post count...that's a standard drop for those teams at those rankings. The next loss (if there is one) would be slightly larger. Generally.

If we beat Ole Piss and Bama, this instantly becomes a fringe top 10 team and the odds on favorite for a new years six bowl game from the SEC (assuming Georgia wins out and is in the CFP)

The only people who should worry about bias are ugly people and stupid people. Avoid being one of those.

Good observation. Definitely seems to always be some bias on how a team ended the prior season, starts the current season and how bad they took a loss.
Might be how we lost the blow out against an average MSU team and got beat by a mediocre Troy?
What happens if we beat OM then somehow pull out a win against AL, win out and take the SEC Championship game against GA?
Do we even jump ahead of AL and go to the playoffs? Are we even in the Top 10?
Team has turned it around and 8 - 4 or 9 - 3 with a chance at 10 win season after bowl would still be incredible meeting preseason expectations. We lost some studs to the NFL last Spring and have some young players getting lots of time right now.

They didn’t lose to Troy or get blow out by what has turned out to be a very average or worse Mississippi State team

How did bias affect us then.

We got humiliated and dropped one single spot in the final poll.

And Washington and Washington State lost. And Auburn. I’m ok with where they are, NC State will beat them anyway.

Four top ten teams lost. Several in the second ten, like No. 11 Miami, had rather unimpressive wins. There was no real reason to move them up. There is no rule that if you lose you have to drop x number of spots.

ignore the silly polls. They're a relic from the past. Poll voters spend about 5 minutes filling out their ballots each week, and they probably only look at scores and do almost no analysis.

Ignore all polls, they're absurd, and have been for many decades.

Nevertheless, in answer to your questions, teams have blips during the year. Happens to everyone. Clemson still is an elite team, even though they lost, and they had a hurt QB, even before the concussion. If they play Syracuse 10 times, Clemson wins 9. Polls should be about the true merit of a team, and not destroy a team's rankings because of one slip-up, on the road, with a hurt QB.

But at the end of the day, the polls don't matter. Win your conference and get in the playoff.
