Any other safety besides Chad Jones to literally beat a team on his back with goal line stances returned punt for score amd picks agains State?

It's a great point, but I would point out that Tyrann Mathieu did the same thing (the same type of insane performance, I should say) against Arkansas in 2011, and he was playing out of position at safety that game because Eric Reid had an injury issue.

Recap of his game
8 solo tackles
two FF, one recovered
92 yard punt return for a TD

I'd probably have to go with one of the guys who was an all-American. But Chad decapitating the guy from Arkansas was pretty awesome.

Yeah you have to mention Delpit because that year he was unreal.

He's the only unanimous All American safety in LSU history. He was so good in 2018, he got "carry over" credit for 2019, making him the only 2-time LSU All American safety (and, to be fair, he was hurt much of 2019 and still effective).

Because Casanova was all over the place - some corner, some safety, some rover, etc., it is an apples-to-oranges situation there. All things considered, he is arguably the best "all around" LSU football player but difficult to place him #1 at any individual position.

We have had so many dominant safeties. Many have been mentioned but my all time favorite might be Steve Rehage. Probably would be ejected today for 50 percent of his tackles.

When my bookie refuses to pay me, I’m sending Rehage after his arse.

Chad Jones wasn’t a top 3 safety at LSU. Freak athlete who made some wow plays, but he didn’t sniff Jamal Adams.

This

Chad Jones has a better argument for one of the most overrated players than he does as best safety. After his freshmen year I thought he was on the path to be one of the best ever, but he put on too much weight in the following years and was more of one those Chavis LB/S hybrid type players

Don’t get me wrong he was not a bad player at all here but I think the baseball stuff gets him a higher rating among the fan base vs. what he actually was

But for one season - Grant Delpits sophomore year he was ridiculous. That ankle injury in his junior year made a lot of people forget how dominant he truly was

As someone who played safety in high school and college, I'm so glad this was stated. Honestly, Laron Landry was drastically overrated as good as he was (missing tackles and being out of position in pass covereage). I put Adams, Delpit and Steltz over Landry (while at LSU).

But Delpit's soph season was just incredible. To have someone that good in pass defense and run support is rare. Adams is the only one I'd say plainly better because he did it over multiple seasons. Chad Jones and Steltz are what and what, people forget how great Steltz was at LSU. Then I'd go Landry and the rest.

1.Adams
2.Delpit
3A. Jones
3B. Steltz
5. Landry

Tyrann played a different position, but needs to be mentioned in any db conversation just because he is the greatest defensive player to ever play at LSU.

At least 1/2! I think every tackle started with his head.

Chad Jones was great.

But I can't say "without a doubt"; we've had a ton. Just follow the string from Casanova to Delpit, there are plenty of guys that make you say "well, let's consider ____".

Jamal Adams was a menace he made playing LSU no fun

Craig Steltz is a super smart guy that would knock your damn teeth out.

Chad Jones was such a solid athlete that he stood out everywhere he lined up.

Grant Delpit is a man as well and should be here.

That is my Mount Rushmore of safeties at LSU.
