Jones may be my favorite BUT....Steve Rehage was definitely the most violently, hard hitting no regard for self but fun to watch

Tommy Casanova was the best I ever saw play and that was without the advanced weight training and nutrition available today.

Tommy is the only 3 time All American to ever play at LSU.

He was gifted that 3rd all American on name alone. He missed 5 games due to injury and had 1 int all year.

LSU has had some great safeties over the years including Jeffrey Dale and Liffort Hobely (Ratphuk’s dad).

Casanova and Rehage above them, but they're right there at the top.

BTW, Saban's Defense didn't "Click" until he moved Henderson (Hunt) from WR to Safety.

Take the Ruston colored glasses off. Damien James had LSU in the Top 5 of Defenses nationally in 2002 before he went AWOL. Hunt got covered up for a bit but was definitely a huge liability being pressed into service too soon in his place.

As good as he was in 2003, he cost us a shot at 3 straight trips to Atlanta and a 4/5 run to the SECCG from 2001-2005 much less a 5/7 run from 2001-2007.

The LSU/Arkansas finish in 2002 was proof positive of that regression.

Damien James had us DOMINANT before he bailed. Hunt regressed our Secondary. Great player. But he wasn’t ready for prime time in 2002...and that isn’t said to slight him.

Spoke with a guy this week that played scrimmage against TC. He was an all state player in HS. Said TC knocked him down 3 times during one play at practice. Couldn't touch him. He decided to block someone else.

All this nostalgia got me reading and yeah it leans off point a little but it's a dang good read 1982 Fla.St. game Dalton/James gang raining oranges on field... Stovall told tv Frick off for day game we play at night, keep your $

1982 LSU/FLA ST. cool article

Edit: it does mention jeffery Dale, how good our lb's were
And we open with FSU

SO some relevance besides a fun read

Casanova. He could do it all. Excellent return man as well. One of the finest men to ever wear the uniform. Period. And I say that with all due respect to other Tiger greats. Man, what a team we have assembled through the decades!

Delpit's 2018 season was the best I ever saw. It's a shame he didn't get the Thorpe in 2018, and maybe some national DPOY type love.

Yes I think he was a better (or at least as good) a defensive player as Devin White was in 2018.

no need to continue this thread

I forgot about Casanova in my post, but yeah, he was a great one.I don’t agree about ending the thread, though. I’d take Adams over Tommy C. It all depends on how you are grading, against each other, or against their competition.

Casanova,
Laron Landry
Eric Reed
Brandon Taylor was overshadowed but was the glue to a great secondary.

LaRon Landry & Chad Jones are tied for 1st. Jamal Adams is a close 3rd.

LaRon Landry was an absolute beast... Chad Jones brought the thunder and is probably one of the best pure athletes to walk the grounds of LSU
