I know, that’s why I laughed.

The 06 team definitely should have competed for a national title that year.

Didn’t they? Won the Sugar Bowl and finished #3. What’s your definition of “compete?” Not arguing, just trying to understand what you mean. Is it making the BCSNCG?

I don't think winning it all in 06 would have had any effect in the next.

That’s pretty naive. Look back at all our NCs and see how many underclass men declared for the NFL directly after. And that’s not unique to LSU. 2007 was a down year for the top CFB teams, so we still may have won it. But it would have been with different players than we did.

Burrow is and was miles ahead of Jamarcus in everything but arm strength so 2006 would not surpass 2019 records especially not with that schedule they played in 2019

I think you gotta put 2013 somewhere in the top 5:

2013's talent was so good it made a post-2008 Les Miles offense look good. That team tore it up. They just had a terrible defense.

2019 - 1st overall QB 2 1st round WR, a 1st round RB, a second round WR and Miss went undrafted

Yes but the QB and both 1ST round WR's are the best in the NFL at there position for rookies and the RB has been a beast---looking at only the draft is one view---looking at NFL production and 2019 leaves everyone in the DUST!

Nothing comes close to 2019.

Don’t forget about Kevin Faulk and Cecil Collins in the same backfield. I know it was for a very short time but that Auburn game was a classic.

Any year with Fournette, Guice, and a ham sandwich was better than those 6 in ‘06.

Just as a reminder, Guice's expungement notwithstanding, the 2 backs combined for 351 rushes, 2389 yards, 25 touchdowns in 2015. That line was 312, 2230 and 23 for 2016.

Those numbers would rival the entire team (with a better YPC for sure) from, say, 1982 (which was one of the better running teams during an era when running and passing were more balanced than the Alexander years when we weren't passing even 20% of the time and even the "passing" QB - (Ensminger) ran a lot).

I don't think so, either. #1 pick under center, 1st rounder in the backfield, 3 WRs who would have literally started for every other team in the nation. A TE that was criminally underrated (probably that big shadow of his father plays a part of that).

The recipe and ingredients were nearly perfect and impossible to recreate.

I don’t know about should have, but certainly could have. I agree with you that they were the most talented offense—if not overall LSU team—after ‘19.** But they had a brutal road schedule and got hosed by the refs and Jimbo/Miles who waited too long to take the reigns off Jamarcus and let him sling it around on the Plains.

Very accurate assessment of '06.

We played 4 top-10 teams on the road that year and went 2-2 (L-Auburn, L-UF, W-UTenn, W-Arky).

No if's, ands, or buts about it 2019 was the GOAT. But it is not accurate to say nothing comes close.

'06 had the 1st overall (JaMarcus), and 2 first rd WRs (Bowe, Buster). It had two WRs who would be 3rd round picks (Early and LaFell). It had the fastest man to play football (Trindon) and a solid group of RBs (Scott, Hester, Keiland, and Murphy).

Had the '06 team been air-dropped into the '19 offensive philosophy, the results wouldn't have been that different.

I mean wouldn't you have to say from a roster stand point that 2018 was a tab better. It's the same top end roster but add foster moreau and nick brossete.

I think 2nd best has to be 2006 with russle, Flynn, perrilloux at QB, Hester, Vincent, Williams, brousard, Scott, holiday and RB Quinn Johnson at FB, and the BAMF Bowe, Davis, doucet, lafell at WR with Richard Dickson at TE

I would third best would have to be between2013 mett, Hill, blue, magee, Hilliard, juice, OBJ, dural, Boone, wright, Dickson and Gordon.

That '13 group there was the first SEC team to have a 3,000 yard passer. Two 1,000 receivers and a 1,000 yard rusher. Don't think it's been done since by any other SEC team. That national team of '19 blew those numbers out the water.

After seeing what you posted about the draft. That draft with Jamarcus was the first time in NFL history that the starting QB and his two WRs all went first round in the same draft.

You left out Rondell and the Meallymeters. All three had at least one 200 yard rushing game that season they played together.

I'm not shitting on 2019, I think it's #1 because Burrow surpasses every other QB option we've seen, and Chase right now looks like a superstar in the NFL, hasn't missed a beat since leaving college.

But the thread is about talent, not production. 2019 was both supremely talented, AND ran an ultra-aggressive attack. We've seen multiple LSU teams that were loaded to the gills with talent, but didn't push as much.

It's a basketball comparison, but I remember North Carolina back in the day, averaging about 70-80 points a game in college ball. In the NCAA tourney, they played Loyola Marymount, who averaged over 100 and played wide open. Dean Smith let his team play at that pace, and I think they had 140 or something like that.

LSU has had talent that could have put similar numbers to 2019 up in the past, had they decided they wanted to score 50 a game instead of 30 with a solid win.

My response wasn't directly in response to the topic. It was just a LSU/SEC fun fact. I bet the majority of tiger fans aren't aware of what I posted. Were you? Be honest now.
