This is a no-brainer, but I'm responding to the other thread on the best LSU defensive backfield of all time.

QB - Burrow
RB - Clyde Edwards-Helaire
WR - Jamar Chase
WR - Justin Jefferson
WR - Terrace Marshall
TE - Thaddeus Moss

Who is the second best?

I think its 2006 - second most talented, anyway.

QB - Jamarcus Russell
RB - Jacob Hester, Justin Vincent, Keiland Williams, Charles Scott, Alley Broussard, Trindon Holliday
WR - Craig Davis, Dwayne Bowe, Early Doucet, Brandon LaFell
TE - Richard Dickson

The 2006 RB room was insane. Look at those names.

That team should have won a national championship. What happened at Auburn was ridiculous. Ugh.

I think you gotta put 2013 somewhere in the top 5:

QB: Mettenberger (Jennings, Rettig)
RB: Jeremy Hill (Alfred Blue, Kenny Hilliard, Terrance Magee)
WR: Odell Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry, Travin Dural (Kadron Boone, John Diarse, James Wright)
TE: I don't really remember if we played a TE. I think it was Connor Neighbors and JC Copeland at FB more of the time.

If that 06 team played in todays game Jamarcus would have broken every record imaginable.

Trindon Holiday's all purpose numbers would be insane.

It's also a tragedy that we didn't go back to back in 06-07.

Dalton James gang, best 1,2 punch in history— loved me some Hillard’s elusiveness and James blistering speed, had front row seats to this combo

That’s all you’re doing. Vincent and Broussard were toast by ‘06. Hester had had a nice career, but didn’t really come on the all-time LSU scene until ‘07. Keiland was never great. All were really nice backs and it was a really nice group in ‘06, but for that year only, it was by no means great. Any year with Fournette, Guice, and a ham sandwich was better than those 6 in ‘06.

I don’t know about should have, but certainly could have. I agree with you that they were the most talented offense—if not overall LSU team—after ‘19.** But they had a brutal road schedule and got hosed by the refs and Jimbo/Miles who waited too long to take the reigns off Jamarcus and let him sling it around on the Plains.

***(‘11 and ‘03 obviously have an argument for 2nd most overall talented team after ‘19, but I don’t think any of those 3 had the offensive talent of that ‘06 team. I think ‘07 was clearly the least talented of the 4 teams, but that just makes their championship all the more impressive.)

Fournette and Guice both held the single game rushing record at one point in their careers

A tragedy? I’m not sure that’s the right word. It certainly would have been nice to have that opportunity. But that ‘07 team isn’t the same if they’d have won in ‘06. Don’t Dorsey and Jackson probably leave after ‘06 and maybe a few others? Does Jimbo come back and run his conservative offense another year instead of Crowton? Are the guys that do come back as hungry? Just too many variables that would have changed if we’d have won in ‘06. (Though some could be positive—we get in slugfests with Kentucky and Arkansas and are like “frick you, we’re the GD National Champs,” and pull away at the end. Point is, who knows.)

Don't forget about Sammy Martin. He was on the 1987 team.
Nobody could stay with Sammy.

Damn, I forgot about that group. Somewhat overlooked because the shite defense prevented that team from making any championship noise. OBJ, Jarvis, and Hill is a nice group. Hill is one of my favorite LSU backs ever. He kinda got hosed and a bit forgotten coming right before Fournette and Guice, but I think he’s definitely a top 10 all-time LSU back.

I cannot believe the NFL didn’t pan out for him. I was sure he was a star for a long career.

2019 - 1st overall QB 2 1st round WR, a 1st round RB, a second round WR and Miss went undrafted

2005
1st overall QB. 2 First round WRs and a 1st round RB. Early went in the 3rd I thjnk And Zinnger went in the 7th. (Argument is that Russell wasn’t that good and 2006 should be evaluated without Addia)

2013
2 1st round WRs. 2nd round RB, 6th round QB. Idk who our TEs were. Clement?

Obviously its not a tragedy literally, its called a joke. The 06 team definitely should have competed for a national title that year. The depth we had in those two years was incredible. I don't think winning it all in 06 would have had any effect in the next.
