I agree with you that Simmons is one of the best players to ever play at LSU. His skill set is so unique and with only playing one year on a bad team makes others not realize how great he is. Plus the hate how he left.

I won't put him number 2 because I think Pistol, Chris Jackson and Shaq are there also. Chris Jackson was just unbelievable shooting but not the first of his kind. Still might be the best shooter I've seen in college.

The top 3 talents in my mind were Shaq, Pistol and Ben Simmons. When each were at LSU, their unique talents had never before been seen at that level before. They were the first of their kind.

Pistol with the crazy ball handling and scoring.

Shaq was way bigger, faster and stronger than anyone seen before.

Ben Simmons was a 6'10 point guard that did it all except shoot from outside. **Magic Johnson may have been better but I didn't see him play**

Ben was the best passer to ever play at lsu

I don't believe he was better than Pistol.

Our problem was with his (in)ability to lead our team to great heights.
That is on Coach Jones. Quarterman and Blakeny were disgruntled players towards the end of the season.

The entire refusal to play in the NIT was a complete joke and 100% on cJJ.

Ben Simmons is the man. I appreciate hearing all the updates on the ROY.

He's a generational basketball talent whose ceiling is the MVP of the league, and he played for a shitty LSU team when he could have gone anywhere. I don't understand the butt hurt all these people are feeling over this decision.

Why is this an issue for you??

Ben will not be remembered at LSU for anything other than a year of play.

How do you just hide your time & play like an all American at the same time? So fricking dumb You need the channel your anger at Johnny jones.
Lester - I agree with you that Jones was an abysmal coach. That was clear to see for quite a while, even before Simmons got here.

I don't get your anger and name calling. I know basketball, and I've already agreed that Simmons stuffed the stat sheet when he was here, but truly great players drag their team up with them. Didn't happen here. Not even close. And Simmons shares a lot of that blame.

He said his time at LSU was worthless. He can feel however he wants, but forgive me if I’m not jumping up and down and telling everyone proudly he went to LSU for a year.

It was worthless as far as player development. That teams game plan was largely "pass to simmons and let him figure it out". He put up insane numbers for being on such a terrible team. From 2015 to 2016 we lost 3 players of any consequence: Simmons, Hornsby, and Quarterman. Hornsby was injured most of 2015 so really we lost the other 2. We went from 11-7 to 2-16 in the SEC. Simmons alone was probably worth 6 SEC wins.

Looking at it now, I don't really know what I learned -- financially or just being a person -- at LSU. I think I've learned a lot more just with this whole year being in (Philadelphia) and being a pro than I did at LSU."LINK

I've also learned more as a professional than I did at LSU, doesn't mean I hate LSU.

Did you watch the documentary? That's what really changed my mind about Ben. He hinted through out that he hated LSU.

His hatred was more directed towards the NCAA rather than LSU

And still no defense in the NBA.. NONE. Stats are useless in today’s game.
Every player from the last 10 years or so just need to have an asterisk by their name similar to steroid era baseball players.its complete horseshite what the league has become.
You know what I remember he most from the last several years? LeBron’s block at the end of Game 7 Finals a couple years ago. That is what I remember. Everything else is pure garbage.

This is so ignorant, I don't know where to begin. The defense in the NBA is the best it's ever been, which is to say, the best in the world.

The defense in the 70's and 80's was garbage. You had players like Pete Maravich, George Gervin, Alex English, Fred Brown, etc, who played very little defense. You had teams routinely score 130 plus points. In those days, basketball was more of a finesse game, with a few exceptions.

Defense really started to be emphasized when the Detroit Pistons started physically abusing their opponents in the late 80's.

Nowadays, teams have their players on strict rotation schedules to limit their time on the floor. In the old days, the star players played 40+ minutes a game, and took their breathers on the floor when they were on defense. Nowadays, players are restricted to 35 minutes a game, or so.

Watch an NBA game, and you'll see they are playing defense. The offenses are too good not to.

Watch this:

1.) You can't sag down and leave your man, anymore. You have to switch and stay on him. Teams have 3-4 guys on the floor who can hit the open 3 at any time.

2.) Passing and ball handling is so much better now than it used to be, and defenses have become more sophisticated as a result. Gone are the days where the offense was just clear out and take turns going one-on-one. Offenses are designed to create switches and mismatches. The guard sometimes ends up guarding the center in the post. Defenses are set up to help out in that case, or switch out of the mismatch as quickly as possible. Watch and see how many switches there are in an offensive possession. It's not done out of laziness. It's done to disrupt the passing lanes and to prevent a player from getting open for more than a split second.

3.) The athletes are better, today. They are better conditioned, jump higher, move quicker, etc. Watch how physical the game gets. The grabbing, bumping, elbows, etc. You have to be strong and quick in todays game. Even the bigs have to guard out at the 3-point line. You don't see any teams with a big, slow statue in the middle, anymore. Artis Gilmore? Bob Lanier? Wes Unseld? Those guys would have trouble in today's game.

The bottome line is that you have to win with defense.

Now, the All-Star game is a totally different story.
