I think he could be great. Not much of a personality so not really sure how he connects with players. As a defensive coordinator I think he was great. But as someone said earlier a quiet guy.

You will def take a step back from this year. Aranda will take time to adjust to becoming a head coach. A defensive minded coach in your league makes absolutely no sense. None

Baylor - STACKED
Big 12 - frickED

He won’t let his players rape every female on campus, so there’s that.
I doubt he’d look fondly on his players murdering a teammate too, so based on Baylor’s recent history I’d say you hit a fricking homerun.

I think because Dave Aranda is an analytical kind of person, he makes an excellent defensive coordinator.
However, at the same time, I don't believe Dave Aranda is head coach material. As he is uncomfortable as hell in public cause he isn't a people person and in fact, is a loaner, he has zero charisma, and he is also not a good recruiter. Not to mention that he is also not an attractive dude.
Hence, for those reasons, I believe he will inevitably be miserable being the head coach at Baylor and people that are miserable, usually don't do a very good job. Good luck. I wish him all the best.

I think it’s a weird fit for Baylor being honest.
Not sure his defensive style works that well in Big 12 without LSU quality DBs. Not sure how big of a recruiting draw he’ll be. Wouldn’t have been where I’d have targeted for him

Anyways, how should Baylor Nation feel about the hiring of Dave Aranda as HC and likely Bill Busch as DC?
Aranda is a very cerebral kinda guy you would want in a HC or coordinator. What will be interesting is how he morphs from a behind the scenes guy to the face of the program guy. That is what most LSU fans have never seen. He has never failed at anything and is a hard worker.

Are you all worried about seeing either or both leave?
Duhhhhh... Busch is someone I worried about but possible CEO makes a run at him for DC here.

I would be concerned honestly. I don’t think Aranda will be a good HC at all and on top of that I think Baylor and Aranda are a really odd fit. We shall see.

Some on this board wanted him to be HC here.
He is a good coach. But he doesnt strike me as having the personality of any of the more successful HC coaching rt now in college.
Maybe Im just used to Saban, Miles and Orgeron.

He’s done everything he can do and now has to go be a HC. I expect Baylor to be very happy with him but who knows?

Kind of a mystery with Aranda since he hasn’t been HC, but a good gamble for Baylor imo. He’ll need to surround himself with good recruiters and innovative offensive minds to have long term success.
I’ll put it this way...had Ed O hire not worked out and Aranda still been around, I wouldn’t have minded promoting him. I believe he’ll be solid

Aranda is a quiet rain main kind of coach, tends to overthink things, not real personable, more of a loner. Good X’s and O’s but doesn’t like to recruit.
He’s not going to be an outgoing Involved in the community coach if that’s what y’all are looking for.

I think he’s going to do fine Baylor. Seems like a good fit.

Aranda is a great DC. We will see if he can be a great HC. Not sure what his role was in recruiting.

You really went at him here but aren’t necessarily wrong. Dave’s personality would probably fit much better in the NFL rather than dealing with teens.
Anyways, I think of the new hires this year at bigger programs , he will be the second most interesting to watch. This includes how he goes about filling out his first staff this late in the game, with a keen eye on who he pegs as his offensive guy. It will help that the school is coming off a big season but historically they are not a good program. Ultimately, I think he lasts four years and is fired but not without some successes along the way and a foundation to build his career on. But best wishes to him, he carried this team through a lot of games with our prior staff and will always be a Tiger. Good luck Dave

Xs and Os--among the best in the game. Certainly in the conversation with Brent Venables and Nick Saban as elite defensive tactical and strategic minds. You have hit a home run in this respect.
Recruiting--medium. He wasn't a standout in that respect here. Part of this could be the relative prowess of other staff members though. His reputation as an elite defensive mind will probably carry some cachet in recruiting defensive players.
Leadership & culture--Aranda is very workmanlike and cerebral. He's never been a head coach before, so no word good or bad on his skills there, but he's done a great job adjusting and developing defenses at LSU, he's very level-headed and won't get y'all into any trouble with the NCAA or the law.

Additionally, are there any other staff members that could possibly come with Aranda, or was Busch his main guy?
Don't think so but don't really know.
Basically get him a great OC and make sure one of the assistant coaches is a strong recruiter and you will have a great staff there.

We love Dave. Dave as a HC is a coin flip, imo.
Posted on 1/16/20 at 8:31 pm to BaylorStudent
Well it took about 4 games for Aranda to get the LSU defense right. He better have a very good offensive coordinator because 4 games and you are playing a bowl on Dec. 26th.
