Don't get me wrong I'll give the guy a chance BUT Who are these O supporters?

Seems like 90% of this board hated the hire and over half still aren't happy.

Do Ed O diehard supporters not visit this site?
Where did TT athletic department see all these supporters?

I was not and still am not a fan of the hire. But I'm like you, I'll give the guy a chance. There's nothing we can do about it anyway.

I have been trying to look on the bright side of things. Seems like morale among the team and coaches is up, and recruiting seems to be improving.

I'll cast my first real judgment a few games into the season.

He brought in a hell of a staff and is landing big talent. What is there to be unhappy with?

Most on this board hated the last football coach too. Just the way it is.

I support O because he's LSU's coach and I want LSU to win, but I don't support Alleva for making a bad hire in hiring him.

20% are supporters and loved the hire

20% are blind homers and just assume the hire was ok

45% didn't like the hire in a vacuum for a multitude of logical reasons, but are taking a wait and see approach and probably have a reasonable amount of optimism just based on LSU being LSU. These are your knowledgable fans. Their day to day opinion will change based on what they are seeing on the field. Some will be a lot more reactionary than others. The best of them will have perspective and be able to see through the difficulties that present themselves. However, if things turn down for a significant stretch they will acknowledge the mistake.

15% hated the hire and will shite on Orgeron every chance they get

In other words, it's what Miles dealt with.

But like at the Florida game I saw a ton of huge O fans. Do they not frequent any online sites?

I support him. He's got two good coordinators, I think he learned from his mistakes at Ole Piss, players respond to him, he can recruit, we have the talent. Not saying we will win the championship but if we do it wouldn't surprise me not even a little

Just because a lot of Tiger fans have strong misgivings about the wisdom of the hire, doesn't mean they want him to fail.
I find the hire risky and puzzling, but hope that Da Coach O can prove my concerns to be misplaced. I hope Joe Alleva turns out to be a genius in finding talent right here on the staff that no one else in America recognized.

I'm just happy he hired a good offensive coordinator and will let him run the offense without meddling in everything. That's an immediate upgrade to Miles.

i certainly think it was the wrong move to hire him but i'll give the guy a chance. retaining aranda and hiring canada were good first steps, and he has done a nice job recruiting. would have rather hired a proven hc but it is what it is.

I don't know if it's that people don't support Orgeron, or aren't happy with some of the things he has done. It was just objectively a dud hire that screamed the athletic department wasn't fully committed to making LSU football the best it can be.

I think the other day LSU was ranked the #2 job in the SEC behind Alabama, who is mainly default #1 because of what Saban has been able to do by way of pumping in resources. Couple that with Orgeron being ranked #81 on the Athlon list just this week, and you can see why it was underwhelming.

People support the coach once hired, because you have to root for the team. But didn't support the hire, because he just was not qualified resume-wise, regardless of how he does going forward.

This topic of the hire has been beaten to death. Only 225 threads so far on the subject and any football related threads have the usual responses about this even when that's not the subject

I guess I am by default. I wanted Jimbo or Herman, we couldnt get them so rather that panic a good compromise was made, move O up and keep Arranda and get a good OC.

Another factor people discount was holding serve in recruiting, very solid class last year.

maybe those diehards don't feel the need to prop CEO up at every opportunity like the CEO haters feel the need to knock him down at every available opportunity.

Then you have two groups in the middle who feel there is no reason, as of now, to say either way...
A) the wait and see group [which I consider myself in] who neither have a reason to voice dislike or love because... they are waiting to see

B) the "there were better options" group who felt LSU could have done better, either in the hire itself or the process of the hire could have been more thorough, who let the past stay in the past and realize there's no reason to complain now, what is done is done.

These two groups overlap to a large degree.

Not my first choice, but I'm behind O 100%. I am more than willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt and wait and see how the this season and the next go before I pass judgement.

I have a propensity to pull for the underdogs and with all of the negativity thrown at O makes me want to see him succeed that much more. Same reason I was rooting for Beau Jordan in the CWS.
