I tried to warn everyone about Ole Miss. They're good in all 3 phases - their record and stats don't do them justice.
The rain delay hurt us. Delucia didn't have it on Friday - at best, we would've lost but used up some of their pen. Instead, Delucia came back better on Saturday and set the tone for the rest of the weekend and saved arms.
My big issue is that we had chances to punch back but we failed over and over and over again. We just let Ole Miss ram it down our throats without much resistance. Somebody needs to flip over the water cooler.
If you pay any attention, you knew this kind of weekend would eventually come for the pitching. The stats are fine, we have some good arms, but it's been hanging by a thread for awhile. Too many innings for the bullpen to handle. The defense obviously makes that even worse, and it did this weekend.
We couldn't put anything together at the plate. It's very difficult to do when you lose a mainstay like Berry and have to shuffle the order all around - then you lose Dugas again, you're having to pinch hit, etc. No rhythm. Doughty had a terrible weekend, and that really hurts with Berry out.
We would have to sweep Vandy to have a shot at hosting. That's tough, but not impossible...so buckle up. Personally, I just want them to show some fight in Nashville for 3 games. Show that they have some urgency, some fire, that they're pissed off, that nobody is going to push them around. If they can dig in a little bit for the next 30 days, you just never know what can happen.

They are actually an awful pitching team.
We just made them look great.

We’re missing Berry big time

I think you hit the nail on the head
This is what pissed me off the most. It was a huge weekend series at home and we looked dead the entire time.

Their pitching staff is one of the most talented in the nation.

A couple of things really bothered me this weekend and it seemed to set the tone the rest of the way. First game the passed ball on the 3rd strike that ended up scoring 4 runs in the second inning. You can tell that bothered Hillard and they had the big inning. It seemed as if every time a pitcher came in and made a pitch to get out of the inning our defense let them down, and it seems to effect the pitchers.
Then the two balls that rolled between the second baseman's legs and the balls that ate up the SS. ALL were routine plays and one could have ended the inning with minimal damage. People can say it is coaching but they were as routine of a play you could have wanted.
Then the watching 3rd strikes with the bat on your shoulder. Yes the umps zone was all over the place but in some of those situations you can't go down like that. It really was difficult baseball to watch.

I don’t know how a catcher is supposed to block a ball in the dirt if he’s on a knee e fire the pitch

LOL, what kind of insane hyperbole is this?
Friday starter: DeLucia is a JUCO guy who wasn't even in the rotation until mid-March.
Saturday starter: Freshman Hunter Elliot has been good lately, but he wasn't even drafted out of high school.
Sunday starter: Derek Diamond had a ERA over 4 last year, and as for this season, after starting today, he dropped
his ERA down to 6.53.

Once they adjusted their rotation with delucia on fridays, theyve been alot better. Took the rebs awhile to figure it out, but they did, and their bats are hot

I am resigned to the idea we aren’t getting out of a regional this year. Would be great to go on a late season hot streak but at best we are a “potentially dangerous” #2 seed. I think being in the road might be a good thing, honestly…

Agree with your post. At this point, I say let’s just get in - anywhere - play loose and let’s just see how this thing goes.

Sure, they are still not good.
Definitely not the most talented staff in the nation.

OM seem to have an answer for everything and everyone we threw at them.

I don't make the rules. Delucia, Elliot, Diamond, Gaddis, Washburn, McDaniel, and Johnson are all very talented. I won't argue their stats, they've not been great, but talent is talent. They've re-structured, too, and it seems to be working better for their skill sets.
