Sometimes stats don’t tell the truth. Some have some loud outs, others have lucky hits. Should have made a few scrimmages for yourself. And yes DRock I’m being cranky but I don’t have an issue calling someone out

Beloso pushing for that DH/part time 1B role?

I'm ready to bench Berry and Morgan when they go 1-8 the opening weekend.

quote:First, you dismiss RBIs. But at least you used the term “generally.” Then you use walks as a barometer for good hitters and ignore the context I gave. McManus isn’t hitting well right now. Pitchers are doing a better job with him. Milazzo is still seeing a lot of fastballs and no one is pitching around him. That explains the walk differential. So while Milazzo has been showing steady improvement and doing exactly what the staff is asking him to do, McManus has shown some regression now that he’s facing pitchers who aren’t as generic with their approach to him. I think he makes an adjustment and turns it around. We need him to that’s for sure. Even when Milazzo starts, McManus will be a PH for him late in close games. We need him hitting well.
Good hitters walk a lot
Bad hitters don’t
One guy led the team is most hitting categories in the spring & one guy has hit .123

The point about RBI is firmly objective. You have decades of games & hundreds of thousands of at bats that form a large mound of data in which that information is pulled. I wasn’t smart enough to form that point, but I’ve studied it and it checks out.
I use “generally” because with such a large sample size, there are bound to be outliers. This usually comes with small sample sizes, but on the occasion a hitter is much better hitter with RISP than he is without, I’ll leave that small room for correction.

That’s the thing, you didn’t give any context
This is what you said, and it requires another question to be asked to understand the context
is simply a product of pitchers going after one while being more careful with the other.
That question is “why”.
Why are they going after one more than the other?
McManus is a perceived threat. Milazzo isn’t
And yes McManus hasn’t hit as well this spring. But he’s also doing what Johnson wants. He wants competitive at bats. He wants these guys to be selective & draw walks.
McManus OBP .294
Milazzo OBP .125

My Friday lineup:
Morgan, 1B
Crews, CF

Doughty, 2B
Beloso, DH
Dugas, LF
Jobert, RF
Thompson, SS

ETA: If Maine throws a LH, Bianco will be there instead of Jobert.

quote:You used the word "generally" for a reason, Lester. Not just because of outliers but because there's more to the story. You know that when analyzing individual vs individual, you have the ability to use your eyes and a ton of other information to come to a conclusion. You're being knowingly obtuse so you don't have to address the point I made about how pitchers are approaching each batter. They've found a way to get McManus out without giving him much to hit. But even in those situations, he's coming up short.

quote:Milazzo is having competitive ABs. And that doesn't always mean walks. What Jay wants for most isn't what he wants from Milazzo. That's not debatable since Jay has said exactly that. Production for Milazzo is going to be different than most others. McManus isn't producing right now at the standard for him. Period. When he gets to the plate, simply walking shouldn't be the high point.

Has anyone put these Spring stats together for the pitchers yet?
Posted on 2/22/22 at 5:21 pm to DRock88
Just searched this old threat looking for cumulative Spring stats on Jobert. Props to CJJ for putting him in after less than great numbers.
Also, props to this poster for predicting Jobert in the opening day lineup
