He didn't take a snap in the outfield. I'm not aware of him playing outfield at Arizona either. It would make sense though, depending on who the DH is. If Beloso or Travinski win the DH spot, you could have Merrifield at 3B, Berry in the OF.

If Maine throws a RH Friday night, I think this is lineup to expect game 1. Maybe swap Beloson for a RH hitter if they throw a lefty. Too close to not go ahead and go with your plan for Opening Night.

Looks like Gio had a nice game last night. I suppose he could potentially hit his way into the lineup the next 2 days, I think it’s too little too late. He doesn’t get on base nearly enough to justify his incredible lack of power (doubles, not necessarily home runs). I’m sure he’ll get some spot starts here and there; but I think his initial role with be as a pinch runner and late game OF sub.

This tells me he’s probably starting Friday night. There’s nothing about Jay Johnson that I’ve heard or read that indicates he’s gonna give Fontenot any kind of symbolic gesture start. Because it fricks up the whole weekend’s good plans. If Fontenot goes Friday, but they envision Money as the Friday night guy, then what, you throw him Saturday, throw the Saturday guy Sunday? So then they don’t get to see the Sunday guy start. It just fricks up their whole weekend plan of how they want to use guys, and I know it’s a long season and there’s 50+ games, but again, there’s nothing about Jay Johnson that indicates to me he’s willing to stray from his plan. Even for 1 game. It fricks him and Kelly out of valuable information of watching guys in the roles they currently have planned for them. And it fricks the pitchers too—including Fontenot—if they’re used in spots where JJ and Kelly don’t plan on using them. You play to win the games, obviously, but they’re also playing to figure things out so we’re playing our best baseball going into May, and I just don’t see them conceding even 1 weekend or 1 game if it puts them even slightly behind what they’re trying to do.

That said, Fontenot may indeed start Friday night. But if he does—from what I’ve read and seen—it will be because that’s their plan for where to use him to start the season, not as some “reward” for coming back.

Anyone think pm would be a good color analyst with Blair for baseball radio telecast similar to Brady
Maybe in a year or two
Thompson is just way too over the top sometimes
It would be refreshing to have a former coach in that role and the insight he could bring

I miss Jim and Hanny doing the games

We have two of his teammates already committed, one in his class and one a year younger.

I was thumbing through the latest Baseball America which had a short piece on Berry. Johnson is quoted as saying if Berry didn’t sign with LSU, he would’ve gone to Vanderbilt. He also said that Riley Cooper would’ve gone to Ole Miss and Bryce Collins to A&M. It doesn’t matter now but still thought it was interesting. Another testament to the lure of playing in the SEC, I guess.
