Watson dove for a ball in center field. Ump thought he caught it and gave the “out” signal.

Auburn scores anyway (correctly).

Ump put the runner back on 3rd due to the incorrect sign which could be considered a “dead ball” and cause LSU to stop play.

Can someone please explain wtf just happened?

Not well, but here goes.

Blooper into short center. Watson charges it and dives. Ball comes off his glove and he rolls and comes up with it in his throwing hand. Auburn baserunner on second comes around and crosses the plate. 2nd base umpire, though, had called the fly out in error. Home erases the run and sends the runners back to the corners because of umpire error. Third base coach loses his fricking mind. Auburn manager comes out and talks to home, calming the situation down. First base coach starts in on the first base ump. Home walks over and ejects the coach. Mainieri asks for an explanation and complains that Hess isn't getting to throw because by now, five minutes have passed.

I think that's about it.

The baseball equivalent of the inadvertent whistle in football.

What a deflating loss if they go down in order.

in the dirt, 1-0
low and away, 2-0
swing and a miss, 2-1
strike, 2-2
low and away, full count
groundout 6-3, Smith advances to 2nd
