An Auburn friend of mine warned me about their secondary being weak.

Overall, I thought it was decent (but not outstanding) officiating that didn't lean. They were letting some contact go - Greedy got away with a sly little Larry Bird-type move on at least 1 play. They let Auburn hold Devin White without calling it most of the night.

Each side's DBs got called for what I consider ticky-tack fouls. Conversely, there was "callable" contact by each side's DBs that went uncalled, IMHO.

If I was Auburn, I would be suspicious of the timing, too, but I didn't discern any particular bias either way - they weren't consistent on DB contact, but it looked fair.

you want to read some funny shite go over to the Auburn board and read all their post. I just spent the last 20 minutes laughing. They are all blaming the refs not their terrible defensive back play.

Funny thing is there were a bunch of obvious PIs they didn't call.

And we get Auburn who'll be breaking in a new QB at home next season.

Yes, they were saying the pass to Giles was uncatchable ignoring that he was hooked around the waist as Burrow was throwing the ball and grabbed as the ball was getting to him. Being held/grabbed/interfered with twice on the same will certainly make the pass look uncatchable

I am still not sure why that call with GIles was PI and not holding. I am not sure how anyone can argue that it was not PI on the pass to Jefferson. I don't think he catches the ball anyway but he had his arm held clear as day.

The Giles PI was so egregious, you can see the flag on the field as the ball goes by. They had already flagged the play, well before the ball got there.

The Jefferson PI, even Gary Danielson called it out as open and obvious, and he's about as close as we'll get to a neutral observer. The DB grabbed Jefferson's arm at the 20 and didn't let go until the ball arrived at about the 12. If he had just held it for a step, the refs let it go, but it was a long f'n time to hold a receivers arm. Right in front of the official, too.

I imagine we’d all get pretty aggravated at being penalized in crucial moments. Listening to this helps me to try and be more level-headed when I’m on the losing side of things like that.

My rebuttal to the color guy is this: when he says that the refs shouldn’t let a call determine the outcome of the game...he must remember that a no-call would have the same effect of determining the outcome. The refs aren’t (and shouldn’t) going to let defensive backs have more freedom to interfere by only calling egregious penalties. I applaud that ref. If that PI is called in the 1st quarter, these announcers wouldn’t gripe that much. They only griped because of the time it happened. But a PI is a PI is a PI, regardless of what the moment is.

Very surprised that they even acknowledged that there were calls “on both sides” and LSU’s 91 penalty yards.

But the melt is amazing. So glad it wasn’t us.

What they want to say is, "WTF are the refs flagging us at Jordan-Hare? This has never happened before! Has anyone complained to the powers that be in Birmingham? We always get away with this shite!"

They sure didn't have a problem with the refs not reviewing that fumble on their second drive. Regardless if it was blown dead, it was still bs
Ditto the CLEAR penalty on the final FG. Sure, everything is dandy since the kick was good. I'm not sure I would have been able to keep my composure had he missed the kick but the hurdling-the-defender penalty wasn't called.

My real question about the refs is:

Why did they get so many numbers wrong?

“Holding on the offense ..number 53..” and it would be #57, etc.

It was odd how many times that happened

Yeah. Gary seemed quite perplexed by it.

Was it ever called again during the season that it was called on us at Auburn? I seem to recall that it wasn't.

Over the years, haven't we managed to get screwed by the officials more at Auburn than we do in Tuscaloosa?
