First of all I doubt there was any written or official agreement in place. Wright and Harris said under oath on the stand that they had no NIL deals in place with LSU.
Secondly to the extent any discussions were had, it would have been contingent on the players gaining regaining eligibility which they did not do on account of the actions of the SEC and NCAA.
Let me clarify. My last post was between the 2 parties (SEC and LSU), any potential claims would be against LSU, not the SEC.
The SEC is a layer or 2 removed from your comments about LSU.
If there was never a deal, then their claims are even weaker. How could they get damages for a scenario that didn't exist? If that deal was contingent, clearly the eligibility was still an issue. The TRO only affected how the actors acted and wasn't the final authority on the issue.

This would mean any player who is ineligible has a cause of action against a conference enforcing that rule.
A court of law has ruled them eligible.

Professional status making players ineligible has been a policy of the SEC for decades.

The amended lawsuit states they want to expel LSU from the SEC even if they don’t roster former pro players. Until the SEC drops this lawsuit and they won’t, not right now anyway, there is still supposed to be a vote by SEC members tomorrow (Thursday) to expel at LSU. According to Pete Thamel, SEC by laws state they only need 11 votes to expel so who ever said you need just 1 person not to vote LSU out is probably wrong.
There’s a chance that Sankey and the SEC did not anticipate LSU not rostering the two players. In the end, they will punish LSU not expel them so Sankey and the SEC feel like they won the situation. It’s a power move but it is abuse of power and collusion and if I were Lane & LSU I’d still sue the fk out of them.

Nobody serious thinks LSU was at any risk of being expelled tomorrow
And the lawsuit will continue until the SEC gets declared to have enforcement authority over its member schools. That's the real goal of the suit.

It was also longstanding policy not to pay players or to allow players seven years of eligibility but they had no qualms dropping those policies when a court ruled against the NCAA. In particular it was longstanding policy not to allow players who hired an agent, went through the draft process and went to rookie minicamp from being eligible.
But then they passed very explicit new rules carving out those minicamp folks and singling out Harris and Wright? That doesn’t strike me as consistent with long term policy.
And also fricking duh. The plaintiffs whole argument is that conferences are bound by all of the same anti-trust and restraint of trade rules that the NCAA is. Do you think all the conferences could just pass a rule banning paying players and the courts would just accept that? Obviously not. Individual conferences will likely be given more leeway, but courts will not just let the P4 conferences get around all of their rulings against the NCAA by just passing all of the same rules themselves.
The SEC has chosen to stand in the NCAAs place here as the arbiter of who is eligible. So they’re going to get sued like the NCAA has been for the past 7 years.

No shite smooth brain. College athletes are pros now and if these cases are brought to the SCOTUS that factor will be considered and they don’t give a fk about a got damn SEC rule over the law you dumb fk.
So explain the SEC rules that to the other schools and other players and see where that gets you.
You also keep forgetting NIL changes all of that and since the NCAA doesn’t want to recognize athletes who are receiving money for services as employees, it violates many laws including anti-trust laws which is why you have hundreds of lawsuits all over the country. Somehow you keep forgetting that vital piece of information.

Charles Bediako.
The SEC wants court confirmation that they can create and enforce their own rules, but they took no action against Bediako or Alabama just 8 months ago.

Rationality hasn't been a big part of this on LSU's side for some time now, though.
And you're still a lying bitch. LSU as far as anyone knows reached out to the SEC every step of the way and did not roster the players. Anything else is speculation or assumptions on your part. The irrational side has been the SEC.
Sankey has had his panties in a bunch this entire time. He is in over his head. If he keeps barking down this tree he is going to end up in front of congress. The NCAA and the SEC can't contain this for much longer. The more they fight it the more expensive it's going to get. And the more they are going to lose. There needs to be a CBA the fact there isn't a CBA has nothing to do with LSU.

They should wait until after the aTm game.

Take the talking point and run it through the entire scenario
Professional status has always made players ineligible for the SEC
Players try to find a loophole via sympathetic state court judge, suing the NCAA
The SEC clarifies its long-standing rule anticipating home cooking in the state court proceedings
The SEC then gets added
The SEC files its own litigation to get its enforcement powers declared legal by a court with more power than the state court (playing the same game as the players)
LSU decides not to roster the players, prior to the ruling on the federal case
So the players sue the SEC for...what? Engaging in the same behavior of hte players, but instead of attempting to circumvent long-held rules, get a declaration that they can enforce punishments for rules? And a non-SEC actor deciding not to roster the players before a ruling is even issued in that case?

quote:Who sued the SEC? Were they named in the original suit or added after the TRO was granted and the SEC tried to strong arm their membership not to roster some of the players that won the TRO. This timeline matters if the SEC is claiming that LSU is the Wizard of Oz.
Second, they believe suing the SEC is a big deal

Define professional until two weeks ago?
They clearly defined their rules two weeks ago. Before that was a gray area.
