TT was 1-on-1 several times with inside position in the first half. They would've been long touchdowns but JJ took the outs and flats.

Ok, I watched the game on tv.

I was listening to the sideline reporter and the commentators. They were commenting on how LSU has not thrown down the field enough.

Ok the sideline reporter said that after a 3rd down play in our territory that JJ threw and out pass to the sideline or something and that the offensive coaches were jumping up and down on the sidelines asking what he was doing. The play was designed to go down the field. JJ checked out/changed the play at the line because of what he saw(basically decided to take what the defense was going to give).

He did do that from time to time. If you watch the replay of the game in the 4th quarter you will see what Im talking about. But it shows that Crowton and the coaches are calling down the field plays but JJ is making a decision based on what he sees from the defense.

JJ has been making good to great decisions so far.......thus......0 interceptions. But at some point you got to take a shot down field. I HOPE JJ thinks or plans on going the whole season without taking any shots down field.

I mean he is slowly getting Jefferson in, growing him, and as Jefferson grows so will the offense

except you have to understand, JLee was thrown into the meat of our schedule, JJ not so much. If anything, the situations should have been reversed. JLee should have been brought along slowly against the three #1 ranked teams that he lost to, and JJ should be going balls to the wall against our inferior opponents. But the D gave up so mant pts, JLee had to fling it.

my biggestproblem with crowton's offenses is that they are gimmicky/complex because he is used to having less talent. When you have a more talented team than than your opponent you just need to be fundamentally sound, line up, and play football. You should be able to tell them what you are doing and them not be able to stop you. It seems like we're trying to do more on offense then we need to

Don't forget about the first play of the game where LaFell ran an in route and JJ threw it at his feet.

Maybe Crowton has no confidence in JJ making thros to the middle of the field.....

The ball and his hands were wet alll game. From time to time the ball came out funny or before he wanted to. He got dry towels from the sideline in between plays to dry his hands. Not to mentioned that he was being hit as he threw like 2 or 3 times I can remember.

Dont want to make excuses for him but I think that can easily be explained.

you can be more vertical without throwing a lot in the middle of the field. Throw down the sidelines especially with single coverage.

While I am a WVU fan 1st, I love LSU. they are my 2nd favorite team(lived in LA since 82).

I watched both games. A couple of observations:

LSU does not seem to be using its superior athletes and size optimally. There is an absence of a power running game.

And I question the Pistol formation. Why not go to the power I more and wear down teams like Washington and Vandy with superior firepower, and use the pass more off play action?

LSU does have great receivers, but operating out of the gun and spreading the field seems to take away from the running game.

they haven't gone downfield yet and it seems strange with 2 big receivers like that. It should be bombs away, the TD's have come off of short throws and the WR's great athleticism, speed, and playmaking have done the rest.

Lafell and Toliver can run, so please Crowton throw the damn ball downfield, geez.

Agree. I know they love that lateral pass but it's poison because we can't hold the blocks long enough to get the receiver upfield. If Crowton could come up with a different blocking scheme or somebody would get in those blockers' faces the pass works as long as JJ unloads it fast, but...if a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his butt, either. Give up the lateral pass, Crowton.

I looked on you tube briefly and didn't see much of the game. Do you remember the throw that went into the endzone?

We threw long early, it was raining, we were leading, we have a young qb, throwing short was working, they had their safeties playing deep, lateral passes worked all last year and against washington.

Does anyone have that long throw that was over thrown, would have a been an touchdown???

JJ in highschool

Look at the the throws around the 1 minute and 1:30 mark. There are a lot of negatigers saying that Jordan Jefferson doesn't have passing ability. I believe JJ has plenty of ability as a passer, just needs to calm down and really read the defense before checking down. Also, Crowton seems to be going by the strategy that against opponents like Vanderbilt and UW, as long as the ball gets into the hands of the playmakers without turning the ball over, then our superior talent will prevail. I think that later on in the thick of our schedule you will see a much more comfortable JJ and Crowton will not fear letting him make plays, IMHO

Jefferson had Chris Mitchel wide open and missed him on a deep go route. I hope keeps taking what is given to him and we keep winning.

I agree. TT could not block his man. I don't know if it has something to do with him being 6-4 or so and the defenders being much shorter.
