Meh the oline wasn’t that lights out last year. Not much of a step back to take
They were really good in pass pro, particularly Campbell. Up until Dellinger went down and we were up against Mubenga and Chester inside.
Run blocking was just awful though. I attribute some of that to bad run scheme too

They definitely need a T in the portal at the very least. If you're starting Curne game 1 you're in trouble regardless what he may turn out to be as a player by the end of his career. Even Campbell had his struggles his freshman year.

The season will all depend on if Nuss takes another step up in his game and if he can get good chemistry with the transfer WRs.
Will more depend on the O-line.

Tied for 14th best in the country, best in SEC in sacks allowed.
cfbstats
With a 1 dimensional offense and a QB who almost never tucked it to run.
And RBs who couldn’t find gaps and would just plow into the backs of blockers.

I agree with this. OL is the biggest question mark and reportedly they didn't look good at all in spring. I think we have some talent here but I'm concerned with the entire OL. Interior will be a major concern if Curne is able to surpass the experience ahead of him. It will just kinda validate what we saw last year in the interior when Del went down.

Cool, they were good at sacks allowed but they weren’t that great in all other aspects. Couldn’t run block for shite. The oline was lauded as the best in the country coming into the season. And one guard going down shouldn’t tank your oline completely, which happened with us having one of the worst olines in the country after Delly went down. They were one dimensional and then fell off a cliff with the injury to Delly, so yeah it can’t get much worse than it was last year. Our run blocking legitimately can’t be any worse.

Just a horrible vanilla run scheme last year. Sloan must evolve here or he needs to be fired.

Not exactly a new problem either. Been a problem since BK has been here. They do not open run holes consistently. The OL has been kinda bad blocking for the run since BK got here. Either it's partly him here or it's time to start taking a long look at the OL coach. It's not a 1 year thing, it's an every year thing at this point.
The only reason LSU looked good statistically in JD's heisman year is because of unintentional runs by JD which in turn helped to open up the RBs.
I will say scheme is a major problem here as well. Sloan did no favors with how he called the offense last year and it was incredibly predictable. The run games doesn't have any creativity either. So, it's a combination of many factors. Miles teams lacked creativity as well, but they just manned up and played power football successfully. Maybe we're a little soft under BK I don't know. Whatever it is in the run game, it ain't working.

The OL will be much worse than last year. Saying they can’t be much worse is silly.

I don't think Curne starts, but to say him starting is a serious issue is a bit dramatic.

OL Carius Curne
The spring saw rave reviews coming from the true freshman, and for good reason. Physically, Curne looks the part. Today's floor might be a good run blocker in the SEC, with his ability to punish the man across from him and get to the second level. Will he be needed? Maybe, maybe not. Curne should be able to provide playable depth at the very least, but what could a best-case scenario look like? Could Curne be a freshman All-American? What if he turns in a monster season and solidifies himself as one of the best offensive linemen in the country over the next three years? The potential is there, as well as the work ethic. Curne is a candidate to develop into a beast along the Tigers' offensive line, and it could likely happen this year.
On3 named him a 5 star late in the year which makes him one of the 32 best CFB prospects. That's impressive for an IOL who don't typically get 5 stars.
quote:
LSU head coach Brian Kelly thinks Curne is a guy that can make an instant impact. Kelly said Curne is "one of the stronger offensive linemen I've recruited in some time."
"He is physically strong at the point of attack. He dominates his opponents," Kelly said.
"He is physically ready to play in the SEC right now. We'll have to see how the other things come together, but he is physically ready to play."

We have to be able to run the ball against good teams, and Nussmeier has to use his legs at times.
Posted on 5/23/25 at 2:18 pm to UnluckyTiger
Will Nuss run is the 10 million dollar question. If he doesn't we're looking at another 8-4 season.

We were controlling the A&M game before Dellinger got hurt

Considering the way our OL always gets glazed all offseason only to underperform expectations, this is actually encouraging. I think they’ll be better than expected. But we have to get the ball out quick.

We'll see if Alex Atkins can help coach up the OL and run game.

should have ran more gap scheme. backs werent good in zone blocking scheme. I hope this year we try an open specific holes for the backs, plus its easier for a young line to know exactly who they're blocking before the play starts and which way to block them
incorporate more i formation and run some play action off it to keep defense honest and offense less predictable based on formation

Considering last years NFL OL was so weak in the trenches that our running game was horrid, the OL this season may be the excuse for a couple of losses
Posted on 5/23/25 at 4:09 pm to BayouCowboy
I don't care how good Curne ends up, it's not dramatic to say starting a freshman day 1 with that experience ahead of him is a problem on the OL. Very rarely does a freshman just come in and absolutely dominate on the OL. Campbell is probably the best OL LSU has had in awhile, and even he had struggles as a freshman. Especially when your first game is going against Clemson's DL. But more to that, it also says the guys ahead of him didn't really develop so that's a problem even if Curne ends up a 1st round pick. I don't think it's crazy to think right now OL will be LSU's achilles heel and at least minimum will take a step back from LSU's OL last year. You just lost a top 10 pick to the NFL and 2 more NFL lineman. At minimum chemistry is a major concern early in the season. Clemson game is likely going to be rough even if this OL gels eventually and becomes good.
