I am assuming he claims Sweden because they pay him to have the Swedish flag on his world records.

He was born in Lafayette LA. I know his parents are from Swenden. What the deal?

He chose Sweden because it’s an easier process to qualify I believe.

It is easier to make the Olympics if you claim a foreign country as your home.

Maybe he has duel citizenship.

He’s a traitor. He should have his US citizenship revoked if he won’t represent the US

His dad is from Lafayette and his mom is from Sweden. I believe their home is still here. He could represent either country. I assume there are additional benefits for representing Sweden. Professional track & field is much bigger and lucrative in Europe. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that played nto his decision.

I never knew Duplantis was a 'Swedish' name.

His Dad is actually from Nola but he’s now a lawyer in Lafayette. But yeah, in Sweden you don’t have to qualify for the Olympic via a single meet like in the US. They also provide a lot more benefits for their athletes - family travel is covered, they take care of transporting equipment, etc.

So you think a guy named Duplantis is from Sweden? Lol good lord. His father is from South Louisiana went to LSU, his mother is from Sweden. He was born and raised in Lafayette. Why he competes for Sweden? Well obviously he’s not too patriotic(despite what Ranters say) and $$$. Yes it’s easier to make Swedish team but if he gave a shite about winning American Gold, he’d do it. I’ll be rooting for the USA and its pole vaulter Kendricks. Not sure why people on the Rant gives him a pass, but I have my suspicions lol.

Most countries allow an easier process to qualify for the Olympus and allows them to make more money. They actual pay them to train. USA charges the athletes for them to train

And was a world class vaulter himself. Mondo's mom is from Sweden and was on the LSU track team when his Dad was and that's how they met.

He is a dual citizen and the US has the most ridiculous qualifying process in the world. If you have one bad day at the US championship event or if you happen to be injured, even if you are the greatest in the history of your event (which he is), you miss out on even qualifying for the Olympics. It probably costs us a few gold medals every year, even discounting the medals we lose because most dual citizens opt for their second country.

Kinda interesting Jamar Chase is destroyed and viciously attacked by this board after winning a NC for opting out one year during COVID, but Mondo opted out on his LSU career and turned his back on his country of his birth, and he’s a hero on this board. Wonder why?

Also, when he decided to represent Sweden he was still young and no one could have predicted he would be one of the best in the world. So with the idea he would be good but not great, representing Sweden gave him a better opportunity to make their junior international teams and Olympic teams.
