It's hard to remember that this is a kid. He was 18 last year. He had some growing up to do, and hopefully now he's fully prepared for life AND football. He could be an all time great if he is.

I want you to keep this same energy when the season starts and he’s hauling in TDs.

From a talent standpoint, he is already on Pitts level if not better. Thats why he is the "greatest TE prospect" ever known.

He would have been the #5 pick in the NFL draft last month?

That's a tremendously bold statement. Are you talking about actual talent or his potential?

So you think that he is as good as he will ever be right now?

He has reached his potential at 19

That is a good goal for him. There is no doubt that Gilbert has the athletic ability to be the same caliber of tight end that Pitts is.

And he goes have a few years left to get there.

I think the players will likely have a short memory with that if he helps them win. I think if it is understood he was just a freshman and had a tough year with covid and everything they'll forget about it and let him ride.

Some of you struggle to understand the difference between ability and achievement.

Gilbert was the highest rater TE prospect ever according to the recruiting sites. He may actually be superior in ability to Pitts. in the handful of games we got to see him play last season, he sure looked the part.

In terms of achievement, this remains to be seen. He played less than half a season last year as a true freshman. Pitts played at least 3 full seasons. You can't compare the two in terms of achievement yet.

From UGA board

quote:

-Now the next one, is no question Arik Gilbert and what are his plans moving forward? From everything I know, and I have not talked to him in months, I am hearing he has been in school online and he is on a path to be eligible to play this season somewhere. LSU is no doubt making a huge play to him to come back. One source that is pretty connected , called me on Monday evening and told me “I think he is going to end up at Georgia.” So I immediately spent most of the day on the phone yesterday checking on that. This sounds like it is getting very interesting here… I am not ready to make that call, but I can tell you that source is STRONG and he has no dog in this fight at all, so coming from him, I took it serious from then on. I will see what else I hear going into this weekend.

Who is talking about achievement?

Maybe talent was the wrong word. He isn't as good at football as he will be in the future. More likely mentally than physically because he will learn things that he didn't have before.

My point is that 2020 Gilbert wasn't as good as 2020 Pitts. Doesn't mean he won't be at some point. But that is his potential not his current ability.

Nor can you compare them in terms of anything else (maybe Pitts year 1) because Pitts has 2.5 more years of learning and growing.

Frick your condescending tone.
